I received an email from a friend of mine asking me to circulate to my friends. A portion of the contents:
"n the coming days, DO NOT open any message with an attachment called: BLACK MUSLIM IN THE WHITE HOUSE , regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus that opens an Olympics torch that burns the whole hard disk C of your computer. This virus comes from a known person who you have in your list.
It is the worst virus announced by CNN. This new virus has been discovered recently it has been classified by Microsoft as the virus most destructive ever.
This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the hard disk, where vital information function is stored."
Friends, many of you might have seen this caution earlier. I thought it better to inform mylot members. I searched mylot discussion whether any discussion has been posted already. There was no such discussion and hence I am starting this.
Did you receive such messages? Please exercise caution. I am not sjure whether it is hoax mail or genuine information. Anyhow better precaution is advisable.
good day.

I may have received it but it is safely stuck inside my spam folder, i don't bother to check it out most of the time, all the files and emails are configured to self destruct after a week. Most of the spammers and hackers like to use virulent email to destroy other people P/C, they get joy out of their action and always expecting to see their handy new virus code spread through out the internet as way to prove their computing talents to the rest of the world. You can't stop the handy work of malevolence individual from appearing online, but you can stop its virus code from infesting our WWW by being a bit caution while dealing with your unknown source of email and attachment every time you check your email.

The email may have come from the incumbent president opposing political party election campaign machinery, they like to use this type of low life's tactic to shred the first black U.S president reputation into pieces by spreading rumor directly out of their ignorance and bigotry, hehe...

Its already been acknowledged by CNN & Microsoft and we know nothing about it yet. Where does the media go now? Anyways, thanks for enlightening all of us. We'll be more careful now. Just one more thing. Can the virus be send as an attachment under some other title? If so, then I thing we all should think twice before opening any attachment.

welcome to mylot. We have to be careful. In my view virus can be sent in an attachment also. That is why mail providers have a mechanism by which they scan the attachment for detecting virus.

Yes, I've heard in the past about viruses being send via attachment. My query is, can the name of the attachment be edited without altering the virus and then send? If so then we should be careful about every attachments that come with e-mails. Btw, thanks for the welcome.

I'm sure you've been tricked my friend. I think its one of those chain e-mail that circulates everyday over the internet. How do I conclude it, its because, if it really is a treat and CNN really announced by CNN or classified my Microsoft., then it would be now a world trending and all over the news. I've seen many types of this type of chain e-mail already and learned that they indeed are.
"Carelessness" I think is more dangerous than those messages as we are dealing against ourselves. I already had contacted countless virus on my computer which damages my entire system, despite having installed four different anti-virus/trojan/firewall/worm/malware etc. Be vigilant and never let your guard down. One can be infected by virus if one is not careful enough.

Well, luckily I didn't receive such a message until now, but I'm going to be alert with those emails. It's terrible when you lose all the info of your hard disk, specially when you have not done any back copy. I have experienced such event but for another reason and it happened in the office where I work. I had to do many jobs again of the begining and it is an unpleasant task. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

hard discs crash --for which reason nobody can predict. my cousin brother has antivirus protection full paid for and inspite of it his hard disk collapsed and he had to buy a new hard disc. it happens.

Omg.. The title is too catchy . It cointains a sensitive things about race , politic, and religion. Thanks for telling us about the virus. Actually I haven't received any message with that title. But I do have a lot of spams which are always deleted without I open it first. Just in case it contains a virus or something.
Do the yahoo mail and gmail have some protections to viruses?

'Thanks for the Heads-Up' , but What do they mean when they say "destroy"? Is there some sort of command that would actually 'dissolve or vaporize' your computer?
Or do they merely mean 'erase the programs on your drive' and/or 'make your computer really slow'?
And what is the Zero Sector of your hard disk?

Thank you for this piece of information. I just do not unterstand what makes some people create viruses. Is it the idea of being temporarily well-known or is it the incessant desire to cause damage to others?

welcome to mylot. One reason is to destroy others' properties. another reason is to find ways to get the passwords of others and make money quickly without being caught easily.

Hmm. I have not received mails like this. And I have not heard about this virus, but I know how to secure yourself from it if it's genuine. You wrote that it deletes the C disk. All you will have to do is changing your C disk so something else, like D or E disk. You can do this by using AeusDiskPartitioner, or using the partitioner that comes with your windows. If you don't know what I am talking about, look up "how to partition my harddisk" on youtube. You will find answers on your questions :)
