Varalakshmi Pooja is celebrated in India --mostly South India -- Those in India would have done it already because for them it is now July 27th evening. We are in USA now and for us --we are celebrating pooja now only and it starts with welcoming Varalakshmi to our house. There is a good youtube video on this and am giving link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3-f2O-2b9M It is an occasion for married women to pray to Goddess to give long life for their husband. Hope those in India would have celebrated it and others may be hearing about this now only. mylotters please post your reaction. have an excellent day and a happy week end.

umabharti: I am seeing your response/participation in mylot after so many days. Possibly you are busy with your work. I am happy you are busy. Yes. I cannot forget the discussions on 'cat' we had a year and a half ago. Hope your father is fine. Varalakshmi pooja is celebrated well -- we make a lot of sweets, vada and eat. We are getting Avani avittam on 1st August, 2012. good day.

Hello Ravisivan, The video you shared is really awesome, specially the sweetest voice of the south Indian lady who singing the slokas for LakshmiMata. And yes, I actually did't know about the Varalakshmi Pooja, but after reading this discussion I just get knowledge about a new festival(Pooja) of India. Thanks for starting cool discussion.

yes. all the people worship -- Lakshmi/Varalakshmi -- Goddess of Wealth in one form or the other. This way of pooja performing is done by south indian brahmins in a different way.
