Is There Such A Thing As "Malas"( Badluck/Unlucky ) and "Swerte"( Lucky )??

Earlier, My friend and I had an argument concerning this dilemma about the so-called "Malas" and "Swerte" thing. When after his fave basketball team lost in a recent match and merely said it was because they(the players) were just so "Malas" or unlucky that even their lay-ups couldn't get through the basketball net. He assertively makes that excuse anytime his team loses a game. I explained to him my views that there's no such thing as being Lucky or unlucky, because it's the person's actions that determines every single bit of outcome whatever it may be. Otherwise, it's the result of his actions. How about you, What can you say about this? Pls share. Good Evening Fellas!
