Dengue Outbreak got me all Paranoid

Philippines

On the news this morning was a report showing the rise of dengue cases in the Philippines. Apparently, just within the region, our town ranks #3 highest number of cases. That's really alarming for me, because I have 2 kids and there really are a lot of mosquitoes around here. I spray insect killers 2-3 times a week on every nook of the house. I make sure there are no stagnant water lying around. But still, mosquitoes reign in this area. After a day from spraying, I'd see a few flying around the house again. I just hate those insects.

Basil, catnip and thyme are all mosquito-repelling plants. If, unlike me, you have some skill at growing plants, you could try growing one or more of these. Thyme and basil have both been found to repel mosquitoes as well as or better than DEET. Plus, these are all safe and natural. We don't have to worry about dengue here. However, West Nile can be a risk.

Unfortunately, those plants are not commonly grown here in our country. I think I only see them in the imported section part of the supermarket. And, even if it can be locally grown, I, just like you, don't have the green thumb.

In addition to cleaning the environment, it helps you increase the antibody, with guava and tomato consume regularly.

Unfortunately, guava is not very common at this time. There used to be a lot of supply of guava, but I don't see them too often anymore. Tomato is an easy catch.

I'm sorry to hear that. Keep spraying and keep those kids in the house. Good luck!
