Hi guys, we want to make our house into a restaurant and chill out place. Since we live on an island, there is a big festival which happens every year in august end here. Lots of people come from all over the state and many tourists also. Our house is in a very center location and near to the area where the festival takes place. So the music stops by 12 in the night and people still want to party so we have decided to have after party at our house. We have almost 10 rooms to decorate and make interesting. I need some ideas from you on how to make it interesting, People must love the setup. Anything creative and to do with reusing some things which are waste.
I have been thinking of bringing waste fishing net and tucking leaves all over it. these leaves will be painted with paint that will glow in the dark. We will have DJ and all.
So if you have any ideas from you countries which may be new here, it will be awesome.
have a good day

riyauro,
What is the theme of the festival? I see that you want to reuse items-I like the idea of the old fishing nets. Is it possible to paint the nets themselves? What do the leaves look like? Is it possible to gather seashells from the beach, and place them in old jars? Maybe take jars, fill them with sand and dye the sand with food dye? Or you could melt old candles in various colors over shells. I saw someone else mentioned holiday lights-drape them around the doors and windows. Do you have a nice breeze coming in the windows or along the outside? Perhaps create a windchime from found objects? And glitter is great (although messy) because it'll reflect back light that hits it. I know it's not a found-object, but neither is paint.
Your idea to create an after-party spot will be wonderful-is this a home that you live in? Are you going to keep personal rooms off limits (bedrooms), or will festival goers going to have free reign over the entire house?
I was a Girl Scout leader for 7 years-we used to use a lot of "found" objects for art supplies. It just takes some imagination (and paint doesn't hurt either!)

Can you tell me more about your culture? Is it possible to ask to have the floats finish their parade in front of your home? This way everyone will know where the party is.
I'll go look in your photos-now I'm very interested. Thanks for the compliments-I always loved arts and I went to school for photography and graphic design.

it is a festival of the island based on the culture. the island is divided into several groups or areas which take up theme. based on the theme they make floats and dance numbers. It is a competition, the winner receives prize. by 8 all this is done and then dance party starts.
we are going to use all rooms except one in which we will shift all important stuff. anyway half house we are not using because we are only 2 of us and cleaning becomes problem. the house is hundred yrs old.
i like your ideas, very creative.
we are putting that light in which things glow. so I will paint the leaves such that it will glow and it can be any leaves, mango, hibiscus, etc.
each room will have different theme. like I had made one mirror , I have painted each room different color and design. you can check in my photos. I will post more pictures now.
I am happy to meet you, you are very creative and thanks for those wonderful ideas.

That's a good idea.
Consider the kind of festival and do things in that vein as well.
maybe you could attach more painted leaves to lengths of string and hang them.
We have these lights on strings, we call them Christmas lights because people put them up at Christmas here, but you could run them around the ceiling. I know that's an expense, but you could use them again next year - and maybe add one string a year if you keep doing this...
Wow! 10 rooms! that's big!

yeah, it is big one, that is why I wanted to turn it into restaurant, boutique and handicrafts shop also. It is good for us because the island doesn't have anything like this. plus we are trying to get a ATM here in one corner.
yeah there are lots and lots of people coming for this festival, so the crowd is automatic for us. Just need to fix the place. I have painted it well but need to do something more creative that nobody saw here.
thanks for sharing. have a good day. I stick to your advice.

I for one would think of decorating each room in a different theme based upon your culture and the festival at the time. Coming from the state I would like to see cultures as they were and not a place focused on the tourist side to draw people in. When visiting different areas here in the states I tend to look for places that are plain and not all built into fake areas to make money.
Put some attention to your heritage and do not take away from who your are as a culture and give them a slice of your life untarnished by monetary ideals. Serve authentic foods, make their visits as serene as possible.

friend you can do one thing, at the entrance of the are use some architectural brain and make a robot or cartoon type statue with wastes, holding a writing welcome, "to the ex.(years old, famous for, rewarded for, why are you blessed to enter this place)". friend as suggestion, make it a brand for visitors destination. it needs creativity. you asked for a suggestion. i did it on the written overview. if i get to know more closer i can think more.
