Well most of the employers there wants a competitive contractors try to enhance your resume make them complete and the most important thing on applying there is to make sure you sell yourself on your cover letter. Maybe the employer rejected you because they saw that you're a new member, it happens when you don't have a star from the start. I also experienced that I waited about 2 weeks before I got my first job there. You really need to be patient well good luck to us. :)

WOW! 2 weeks is pretty fast. Do we get stars after our first jobs? I just finished my profile now and I took some tests. Some tests are pretty hard LOL. Just curious, what was the first job you got? Thank you for your response! Happy mylotting.

Oh yeah. I get you. But sometimes it is better to get bigger tasks because the pay is bigger. I have applied in the graphic design field. I hope I get hired soon. Good luck to the both of us More power to you!

Yes you will have stars after your contract, your employer will give that stars. And its good to take some test, it can also helps you to qualify in some higher jobs. Most of the employer hires the most cheapest bid and they need the work be done asap. Right now my new job there is killing me, hehe well good luck! :)

Hello Savagecabbage! You are not doing anything wrong. I'm also a member of odesk and elance. and I can say that at first It would really be too hard to find an employer and there are also a lot of members applying for a job and another thing is the bidding. Just focus and dont quit, You'll find one for sure. I got my first job at odesk on my 6th week as a member.

It depend on what kind of work and how hard or easy you can accomplish the tasks, My only advice is If You can do the job easily, then bargain your hourly rate... I bid for $10 per hour for making my employer a visual c++ program and html.

My sisters have been using Odesk for like 2 years. They didn't immediately got jobs there, it took patience to do the tests and apply. There is nothing you are doing wrong. It's just that the right opportunity has not yet come for you. It's just like in the offline setting - you personally apply at different companies and the first or few days may not always be productive for you. So hang in there, you will find the right job for you in oDesk.

I also have an account and I was wondering also why some of my friends earn a decent there, maybe you haven't passed their criteria exam which prevent you to apply for more jobs. If there is any tips that you can share I love to hear it from you, I am dying to learn how to work there

I am also a member of freelancer and odesk and tried hard to get a job that i couldn't get. Therefore, i left these sites, odesk is tougher to win a bid than freelancer.I am a graphic designer not have professional at this time, but made very good things and earned blessings from my Teacher.I am not presenting my profile well that's why i left odesk, i think i should polish myself before going to work with an employer in odesk.May be, i will be trying freelance just or may be not.But i can suggest you some points. 1.Make your profile as attractive as you can. 2.Try to bid on more and more projects. 3.Add copy of your work you recently did, select the very best from your work.

elance is a good site but odesk is much more strict for hiring employees.

I am responding because i am also a member of the said site. In O-desk when my first application i easily get hired but i don't lzke that job that's why i end the contract and when it tried to find another one. I cannot get a job but now i have job and a stars in O-desk but i can say that even though you have stars feedback the another problem arises. It your bid, as i observe in Odesk. yes it competitive but you need to lower your bid that's one of the solution you get hired and it dependsuz on the type of job that you're into. While Elance i am a new member there. And i am struggling to find work but we should not give up if you love to work online. In freelancer i hire people for my other job. because i cannot do the other job i need people to have a job and earn as part-time.
