Tape Delay

I can't keep track of all the different time zones in the world, so I'd like to know how the Olympics are airing where you live. I hate the tape delay. They save the gymnastics and swimming until the night viewing because they are the most popular here to watch. So you have like 6 hours to try not to find out who won. I learned very quickly to stay off Twitter when I read on there that Ryan Lochte had won gold yesterday. They air a whole lot of it live (like hand ball, canoeing), and online you can watch it all as it is happening. But they won't air the things like gymnastics, swimming, or diving during the day because they think they'll get more from it if they save it until the night time. How is it being aired where you are? What are the most watched sports in your country? I'm very interested in that because like I said, gymnastics and the swimming get the most attention here (America). Even more so than the basketball. Has the results of the games been spoiled for you? By Twitter or TV news?

No problem for me because I am totally clueless who is who in the games this year...But even if I did find out before, it is still awesome to watch and I am now trying to figure out if I can even turn the TV onto the station airing it because I rarely watch TV and since the last time I watched it, we changed TV's, got one without a remote..

Yeah, if they weren't in the 2008 games, I really don't know who these people are. All the gymnasts, I have no clue. They did just have a woman, Kim Rhodes I think her name was, win her fifth straight gold in her fifth Olympics. She did it in shooting. Can you imagine? She's been doing it in the Olympics for 20 years! She won't get too much recognition because in America that's not really our favorite event, but I think it's cool. I didn't see it happening, I just saw it come over Twitter.

Unfortunately I have missed the last two Olympics, so I really don't know anyone. As for Ms. Rhodes, that is awesome. I am primarily interested in swimming, gymnastics, and soccer. I did see bits of soccer online, (America vs. Columbia)and a short take on swimming on TV, but my son was playing a game on the living room TV and it's not comfortable to watch the bedroom TV, plus that TV has bad coloring, too much red..

Since it's already aired on TV I don't think I'm spoiling it (unless you DVR'd it) when I say Missy Franklin won a gold medal tonight. She's only 17, can you imagine? Surely she has two more Olympics in her. Anyway, I found that out this afternoon once again before they aired it on TV. But I wanted to see it anyway. Did you see that she is from Aurora, Colorado where the shootings were? I started watching water polo this afternoon after hearing on the radio a sports guy talking about how intense it was. I could not believe how hard it looked! It's like playing basketball in water.

We have it live but the time does not allow me to watch the entire game. Usually they start air it on evening till late next morning. I won't stay awake ans sleep late so I will just watch the game before 12 o'clock and then go to bed. They have it all. Sometimes there are weightlifting, diving, swimming, archery and many more- they air it even if we don't have athlete represent our country.(^^)

Oh, where do you live? Here, they air the most popular sports on a regular channel that anyone gets. But if you have cable, they air even MORE events (like field hockey) on three other channels.

I am from Malaysia.(^^) The local channel here, they don't just pick the favorite and popular sport. They still air some other sport like boxing, saber etc. It just up to us whether we can stay awake or doze off before the game end.(^^)

I go and look, so obviously I don't care if I know who won before it airs.

It is surprising how many people on Twitter get mad about it. I'm thinking, did you not learn by the very first event not to get on here if you don't want to know?

I haven't been watching, so no. I tuned in last night to watch some of the swimming, but it was rather boring. They were all semi finals.. so I ended up changing the channel. I used to watch the olympics religiously, now I can't seem to get into it, which is sad because I may miss some major events. We watched the last summer olympics and saw Usain Bolt win his gold and Phelps win a few of his.. so that was cool that we got to see them as they happened. This year we'll miss anything like that.

I admit I'm not into it as much as I was when I was younger. I remember one Winter Olympics, I think it was in the early 90s, I was glued. I'd watch it with my mom. It was fun.

As I recall the Olympics were on nearly 24/7 when they were on before. Some people recorded the stuff at night and DVR'd it and watched at their convenience. I like the pole vaulting, ice skating and some of those but most of it doesn't really interest me. I like to hear that the US has won.

Actually you can find out the results even on Facebook before anywhere else as well as depending on what Time zone, etc. you live in they are always airing it somewhere else first. I have considering downloading the Ap on my phone for the Olympics and seeing if they air anything there a little faster. But I do agree that Swimming and Gymnastics are usually 2 or my favorites I like to watch as well.

Yeah, it's on every single social networking site. One sports guy on the TV says he downloaded the app, and he's also got it online, AND on the TV at the same time.

remember the six hour differences, well they are not going to air something here at 2 am so that has to be accounted for. They have to air the event at a time when Canadians and Americans will be watching. I was watching the men's synchronized swimming I can remember what time it was here but it was already the next day in England.

The ones on tape delay, if they had been aired live, would have been on in the afternoon, around 1pm.

I'm in California and there are zero surprises for United States results because of Facebook. When the United States wins a metal somebody posts it; however, its fun to see who wins the other metals. We have seen some excellent swimming by the teams and I have watched a few different sports now. I enjoy canoeing and that was fun to watch. I'm now thinking about a vacation in the water in canoes, as haven't done that activity in a long time. People like to see sports that their participates do metal and the men's basketball team is made up pro players, so we always expect them to do well. That isn't the case for these other sports where the people are so young in many cases and they work long hours without pay.

The only time I can watch it is at night....but my granddaughter is staying with me and she has an app. on her phone that lets her know what's going on so when they showed the swimming relay last night she already knew the outcome.....so its been spoiled at times. I did watch the rowing yesterday.........and a bit of the sand volleyball. I am glad they do replay alot of it.

I have night viewing on the swimming and gymnastics too. I love the gymnastics but getting up at 4am has the potential to put me in bed long before the midnight viewings. It's hard not to have the results ruined. I have recorded the gymnastics but I always end up hearing from one place or another what the results are before I get to see it.

I love to watch that event too. However, now, I haven't got a chance to watch it because I go to bed early and I don't have any update which TV station here n our country used to air it. I loe to watch those events too. You are right, sometimes, it was annoyng to watch it late or taped. As much as I want, watching it live is really better. I also love to watch the synchronzed swimming.

Why this year is tape delay, usually it's always on live. Especially for the opening ceremony, it's should be on live, but we got two or three hours late in USA central time, I was watching it at 6.30 pm on that day, and I hate people already seen that tweeted or on FB about it, there is no surprises at all.

If you're willing to sit on your computer or computer device all day you can watch everything live. But I don't know that I care to be glued to a computer screen all day just to catch it as it's happening. I'd rather it just aired as it was happening on TV.
