No, cannot say I have a fear of needles, but still look away when they are about to enter, but I guess I would say I do not like the one at the Dentist, now that is a worry! lol

Before I started my training, it was at an Infectious disease hospital, and we had to have 17 needles in the week before we started. Now that is worth scraping yourself off the floor for!

Even a small hill would cause me pain to push my muscles to the limit on a bike. But, pedaling a bike is by choice, needles are not.

I used to be until I became a Nurse...The first injection I had to give, I almost fainted myself -just holding the syringe/needle..lol..So not only did it give me a great career, but it cured one of my biggest fears at the time~

Nursing is a great career. Congratulations! I commend anyone that chooses healthcare for a career. I was just thinking of a friend of mine who said I should apply for employment at our local hospital. She said they always needed someone to draw blood. NOT me!

Holy crap yes! I once needed a blood test to test for gladular fever, done in the doctors office with a doctor Ive seen since late childhood and my mother, so the people around me were fine and the environment was relaxed.
She put the needle in but was not able to draw any blood because I was so tense, it took them 10 minutes for me to relax enough for them to take it out.
Another instance was when my sister got her appendix out, hopped up on morphine when I asked what the thing on her finger was, she said it was (with my prodding) a needle.
When I had a knee operation the nurse was going to put one of them on my finger (it was a pulse measurer), my pulse rate was so high (even after knowing what it really was) that she had to get me to imagine nice things. Second time it was still so high, so she had to wait 10 minutes and do it by hand :P
I have, however, got over this fear in recent years. I thought it was kinda silly and I should get over it and do my civic duty (donate blood). The nurses there were fabulous and looked after (distracted) me really well so that now I can even donate plasma without a problem.
Sorry its so long :P

I applaud you on your lengthy response. I enjoy reading a response that has more content than "yes I do". Glad to hear that you have overcome your phobia. My hope is to be able to give one day give blood. It will take some prodding to get me there. I will give it a try and let you know how it goes. Add me to your friends list please.

Yes, I am terrified of needles, which is why I don't have any tattoos or my ears aren't pierced. I'm going to have to get blood drawn for a test to figure out why I'm always so cold and I am not looking forward to that. I don't faint at the sight of a needle, but I definitely do not volunteer myself to give blood, haha. That's for sure.

My ears are pierced. I tried to pierce them myself when I was 11, but freaked out when I saw blood trickling down my neck. I felt my knees weaken and pulled the needle out of my ear.
About 2 years later my grandmother gave me her sleepers. It took about a week for them to work their way through my ears, but it worked. Now I have 1 1/2 holes in my right ear.

I asked my sister today if she would like to go with me to give blood when they have the local blood drive in a couple of weeks. She didn't say yes and she didn't say no. I am willing to give it a try.

It is a fairly common fear which I do not have, but I don't particularly like to watch one go in to my arm. I always look away. I especially didn't like it when an oral surgeon gave me a shot to numb my tongue, (with what seemed like the biggest needle I ever saw!!!), so that they could do a biopsy on my tongue, yes, my tongue. Talk about pain!! That was the only time I ever had tears just automatically spring from my eyes.
As far as donating blood, I have very small veins and I've only done it twice and never again. The first time they got some blood out of me with some difficulty and the 2nd time they tried at least 3 times leaving my arms all black and blue.

I have rolling veins so there would be some bruising with my arms as well. If they can't get it the first time I would say to forget about it. That is if I didn't pass out first!

Nope, I'm not afraid of needles at all. I used to not like shots when I was younger, but now I am fine with them. I also have tons of tattoos, so ... =)
