Hi everyone. I am planning a trip going back home to Philippines and I am thinking of getting a flight that will have about a day of lay over in Hong Kong, and since this is my first time, to try touring Hong Kong alone, I don't really know much of how to go about it and enjoy it, as I am not familiar with the places to go to and all that stuff that involves travelling and enjoying Hong Kong, like the mode of transport, going from one place to another. Can somebody familiar give me some ideas and tips, how to enjoy the place even on a budget? It will be much appreciated.

Here's a good site to check for places to go, rates and fees to prepare for. I am also using this website for my Hongkong vacation plan this year. http://www.hongkongextras.com/index.html

I would suggest a ride on the old tram because I found that very interesting and enjoyable. You could spend some time by the waterfront looking at all the junk boats. It would be lovely if you could go high up to see the view. I stayed at the youth hostel on the top of Mount Davis. I hope you will be able to go up somewhere high up to take photos. I took a bus and boat out to one of the outer laying islands. I found the beach dirty with rubbish. I don't suggest going out to any of the beaches due to your time frame and the city center being more appealing.

I think you'd better buy a lonely planet of that book, the book contains all the detailed info about traveling anywhere and i think you can find what you want.Or you can choose to relax and you can walk or take the visiting bus, either way can make you experience local culture.

I have never visited Hongkong before, but I have visited some other places in China like Zhensen, Guang Chou and Xiamen. I think those 3 cities just like Hongkong not an expensive city at all. You can visit Symphony Light at Victoria Harbour every night at 8pm and it absolutely free. You can also visit museum or go to Hongkong Cultural Centre. If you want to know about martial art (Tai Chi) you can also attend the martial art class of Mr Ng for free. For transportation you can yse tram or star ferry. Tram fare is fixed at HK$2, hop in from the rear gate, while exiting at any of the enroute stations. Trams operate from 6am till midnight, you check their website. Star ferry is icon of Hongkong and no trip to the city is complete without a ride. It offers great view both sides of the harbor. The fare for adult is HK$2-HK$2.5 There many options of restaurant if you want to taste the local food at affordable prices. And the last, if you want to spend a night you have to prepare around HK$200-HK$300 for single or double room. The room is bit small but quite clean. I hope this info can help you. have a great trip :)

Hong kong is an expensive city, so be prepared. go online and find out what all the attractions are. Don't do the things that you can do any where else,do something that is unique to the city. You could take a city tour that is not expensive. Is a friend going with you? Be very careful there are lots of scamers there and they all want your money or your body. It would be much better if you had a companion.
