Chocolate pudding for breakfast

Black Sapote - They are one of my favourite fruits to eat when I feel like a little special treat. I just dig a spoon into their soft flesh and eat!

Well, not quite. I had two Black Sapote this morning for breakfast. Black Sapote are otherwise known as Chocolate Pudding Fruit for their uncanny resemblance in both flavour and texture to a cooked chocolate pudding. http://www.daleysfruit.com.au/fruit%20pages/blksapote.htm They are one of my favourite fruits to eat when I feel like a little special treat. I just dig a spoon into their soft flesh and eat! (see photo below) So, what did you have for breakfast this morning? And have you ever had a Black Sapote Chocolate Pudding Fruit before? Have you even heard of them? If not I think you need to find yourself some!

I was going to say that chocolate pudding is not healthy for breakfast but now I do not know if what you had is healthy or not. I have never heard of this kind of Fruit - Black Sapote. If it tastes like chocolate I would love to try it. I do not know how it grows, where, or if it is of any healthy value for the body. I would love to know those things.

Oh you were trying to be a trickster! I wonder if any of your friends will be fooled by the title or not as i was. Since it is a fruit I can tell it will be healthy after all. It will be a good change from citrus for a good source of Vitamin C. I would love to try it because I am a big fan of fruits but i can rarely have enough of them.

Yeah, I am a trickster alright. You can never trust me really! Yep, you can never have enough fruits, especially if you get a good variety of them for their differing nutritional values.

I am sorry, I am not really sure what you are trying to say? Are you saying that it is the first time that you have heard of this fruit?

Hi Bill, That's a new one on me too. I remember when I lived in Townsville briefly before moving to Singapore to live, I discovered custard apples which I'd never heard of. They are delicious! Your chocolate pudding fruit sounds good but looks terrible. What is the consistency like? I thought the idea of dragon fruit was awesome and it is such a visually appealing fruit but the taste is rather bland.

Custard Apples are awesome. I prefer the similar looking Rollinia (Brazilian Custard Apple) of the regular custard apple though as its texture is smoother and it has a nicer taste to me. The texture of the black sapote is a smooth creamy meat, it is really like it is some sort of thick cooked chocolate sauce! You have to dig out all the large seeds and suck them dry and as the flesh is very thin, they do get messy to eat. I always end up with it all over my hands and face! I like dragon fruits, they are quite nice to me, you must have not gotten a good one. Which did you try? The red or the yellow? We have both growing in our yard, but they have not fruited yet. The thing with new fruits is that you need to get a good one the first time that you try them or else you get turned off them. I know so many people that rave about how good jackfruit is but I found it overrated as we got a bad one twice! I also have met people that say they do not like mango which is bizarre to me, but they must have either got an unripe one or a bad variety the first time.

Hi Bill, so far i never heard and never seen this type of fruit available in my area here yet. Sounds quite delicious kind of fruit. I am waiting to taste it one day, when i have the opportunity to visit your country. As for me here, i always have either bread with jam or cereal for breakfast. Sometimes, i do take fried mee or rice for breakfast.

Hello! I am sure that you would be able to find it in your country given that it is a tropical fruit. It is probably just known locally by another name as it is in the Philippines. See the link in the above post and you will learn more about this great fruit.

Hi Ann. It does grow in your country as it is a tropical fruit. It has been grown there for well over 300 years from what I can tell, but it is most likely known locally as something else. Here is another website with some good information on the fruit. http://www.fruitipedia.com/black_sapote%20Diospuros%20digina.htm

For breakfast, I had two slices of bread and peanut butter. This is my usual breakfast since I am always on the go. I have never heard of this fruit before. Where can it be found? I think it is really interesting that there are different types of fruits around the world. I though you had chocolate pudding for real. Having real chocolate pudding sounds real nice. happy mylotting.

I would not eat real chocolate pudding. Especially for breakfast! I see that you are in The Philippines. It is definitely available there as it is a tropical fruit. If you scroll up to post number 11, you will see another member from your country and I posted another link to the fruit in her reply.

Wow, I never heard of that fruit before, although I do know its close relative the persimmon. This morning we had a slice of leftover breakfast casserole (like quiche only with a biscuit crust instead of pie crust) and a slice each of cantaloupe and watermelon with a small glass of pomegranate juice.

The rockmelon (cantaloupe) and the watermelon and the pomegranate juice sound very refreshing and delicious. If it were not winter right now I would be going for something like that too. You will have to try and see if you can find some Black Sapote where you are. You will not regret it if you do find some!

I have never heard of it before. I followed the link and it told me that this fruit was a chocoholic's delight. I am not sure how that can be as there is no chocolate in it! However as faux chocolate I suppose at least it looks the part. I'll reserve judgement until I have tasted it. Now can I find it in the UK.

I am not sure how you will go finding it in the UK. Might be a little tricky I reckon. But you never know! It doesn't really taste like chocolate, well not chocolate in it's raw form anyway. But it definitely does have some resemblance to a chocolate flavoured dessert. It has a mild sweetness with just a nice flavour, nothing too over the top. Just nice...ah, I wish I had one right now just thinking about it! I could go one for dessert as well as breakfast.

You should be able to find them in the USA as you have most of the same sort of tropical fruits that we have here in Australia, only difference is yours get imported from South America or The Caribbean, where ours are mostly grown locally up in the northern parts of the country.

They are pretty awesome Jen. They grow down south in Florida apparently in the USA, so you might be able to find some in your neck of the woods if you look hard enough. I would try farmers markets first.
