i used to step on the shoes of others.it's like empathy often runs in me. i usually think about the feelings that i would get if i were in someone else's situation. this afternoon, during our class, i noticed how passive my student was. contrary to how she behaved in our previous meetings;she was active then and had full of energy.but this day, it's like she was looking at me, she was nodding to what i was saying but i don't think she understood clearly what we were talking about. until such time, i asked her to read paragraphs. after that, i asked her questions to check how well she had comprehend them. all i got was "i don't know", when in fact, all answers can be found or directly stated in the paragraphs she'd read. i asked her if she's okay, she said yes; i asked her if she's sleepy, she said yes and she told me that she slept as late as 3 o'clock in the morning because she had a very good conversation with her roommates. much that i wanted to proceed with our discussion, i decided to stop and allowed her to take a nap, instead. she couldn't believe that i was allowing her, so i told her that she was allowed only for today, but next time she has to sleep early if she doesn't want to receive a negative comment in her report card. she agreed and she was very thankful. i actually did feel how sincere her gratitude was.
i know how hard it is to comprehend when your mind doesn't work due lack of sleep, energy or food and i believe that the teaching would only be useless if i forced her to learn something she barely absorbs and understands.

I say you did the right thing, but she should also be warned the chance of failing if this continues. are you sure that the only problem??
But time will tell, the only thing you can do is wait and see.
