You started low, but if you are given an opportunity, why not take it. Some people I heard on the news, he was started as janitor in a children hospital, but with the perfect opportunity, that hospital offer nursing courses free if you can keep up with a standard GPA score, you will continue to get that education for free. Now, this gentleman achieve his dream, and he got a degree of nursing, which not only upskill himself, also increase his pay. In other workplace, I heard such similar stories, and we just need such opportunity and make an exit to success for ourselves. In my workplace, I never heard such offer yet, but I want to seek an opportunity for myself, and upgrade my skill to upper level. Would your workplace also offer upskill courses?

Yes, I value upgrading. My company offered upgrading (free) on company time but it was self serving. It allowed the person to their job better but not to improve their status as an employee. If a employee wanted an opportunity they needed to pursue that themselves. The idea of taking a janitor and moving the person up to be the next CEO is perhaps an old idea but not practical in most companies in a modern day economy I am thinking? In fact having a resume that shows a specific position might generate interest in that position only? I'm not against the idea just questioning its practicality but there are always exceptions to how things work. Anyone, will appreciate any responses on my comment, thanks in advance and thanks for creating this discussion.

They don't offer anything here at my workplace. I hope they will, someday.

My company does have a program in place to up-skill their employees. It's a Global/International Organization so they have policies as far offering courses to up-skill yourself goes. My company is also an IT Company & offering courses to up-skill employees is part & package of their values & mission. Its actually a requirement. I guess the only bone of contention I have is that the employee needs to be in the organization for a certain number of years before the promotion is offered...

Yes my company will offer such opportunity, but may be it is a little different from what you express,my company is a chemical industry firm,so I will take a courses for the danger chemical products and I will take a exam after a month study,if I pass this exam I will get a certificate and then it will prove myself in this industry, but this just can prove myself can be a qualification staff in my company, this will not lead to the promotion, there are no such a courses will help to promote,if I want to get a high position,I have to stay at this company for more than 4 years than I can take a test by my big boss,if I pass that test then I can get promote.
