This is what I like here in my area, as I mention to my previous discussion our country now are experiencing casual rains and typhoon because of the season. Last time when I made a topic about flood I heard the 3 loud siren coming from the authority warning us that the water from the river rises because of the high tide.
As early as 8am today we heard it again and after a minute we can see the water are already rising. Many people from the neighborhood are ready for moving their stuff to the higher ground. Some men are on the street asking if someone needs help. I wish again it will never reach my floors. I already see the water from outside first step of the stair before my front door.
Do your authority warns you if there is an emergency?

I never experienced this as it is rare in our city to have flood.. and so i do not think the city is equipped when it comes to this but i hope they are! To think that such thing could happen fast..
The only emergency we had was when there was siege by the Abu Sayaff and that was during my 4th year in high school, 2001 i think and they like conquered one areas and they were bombing and taking hostages the people of one barangay and the military had to warn everyone..so that was the time when i heard loud sirens..and i was in school that time and my dad who was in the military too took me out of school that time and it was pretty scary.
but as for natural calamities..there was none.

There is a signal that comes through the TV here that they test once a month or so. Everytime I hear it, I think there is an emergency. When I lived in Alabama there were tornado sirens to warn people. We don't have that here but with the way the weather has been they probably should.

Well that is good! The authorities in your place are doing their job. I am so sorry though for those who don't follow the authorities. They are the ones who suffer a lot. Have you seen those who were drowned? Their entire house was taken up by the strong current of flood. They were inside their homes and could not longer save themselves. They just perish. How sad!I wish people would learn to follow authorities.

I am not in a flood prone area. There are warnings for the people who are, usually on television and radio, even in advance. The warnings I would get would be fore tornado activity. We also can hear fire and police and emergency sirens. I am glad you have a little warning about the flood waters.

We are not so much monitored by the news here unless someone concern citizen will upload some photos to the network so that every body will knew that we have some flood over the town.

Some years back we used to have an emergency alert sound test that went off every so often, but I haven't heard anything like this in a long time. Where I am now the most frequent problem a fire, but before the sirens start usually we can see or smell smoke since my place is on the hillside looking down into a valley.

I have never live any where that flood but people lived in other area of my country would experience flood whenever its hurricane season . I remember watching the news seeing a mother of three lose their life after their houses was flooded and they wash away to the sea . What most people would do is move before the hurricane hit and tie down their furniture and take important document and stay some where that wont flood . In my country tv personnel work right through the storm and people who still have electricity are cars will hear update and our phone company will continue to send update like every hour during those time . I have experience flood one time when I couldn't make it home and the car was full of water we had to get out and swim because it was washing away

Nope we don't have the same system. No alarm or siren warning signal here. I think such never exist here in my place as we rarely have such incident. Flood is rarely happen here. If it happened it never reach the bad level. Glad to know that people in your place are so kind as they have no problem to help other people.

Lyn, it is good to hear your local authority had set up a good warning signal to inform their people whenever there is a flood. One of my friends who lived nearby to river area always hear the alarm and siren sounds whenever the water in the river had reached to the dangerous level. It is as a warning signal to inform people living nearby river area to evacuate to another place of safety. It is good to see nowadays the authority had set up safety warning, to make sure no dangerous matters happening to its people. I am lucky to have lived in an area which is quite high and free from flood.
