My sister told me that its bad to clean my ears daily since its going to dry up as the ear wax is for the protection of my ears. But I don't lessen and I clean my ears twice a day one in the morning and one in the evening. But now I feel that I have an ear infection. I really don't understand that I have an ear infection since I clean my ears twice a day. Now I'm afraid to tell my sister because she will scold me.

I personally only clean my ears about every other day as opposed to every single day, but I don't think that there is anything at all wrong with cleaning your ears every day if you tend to have ears that are particularly waxy.
The thing that is important to remember when you are cleaning your ears is that you don't put the q-tip down into the ear canal. When you are cleaning your ears, all that you are doing is cleaning the very outside of your ears. If you do put things into the ear canal, there is a chance that you could accidentally rupture your ear drum which will definitely lead to infection.

It's not good to clean your ears everyday, so my doctor says. I used to clean them everyday and had some infection. And every now and then I go have ear check ups. Then Dr. told me one time that my ears are too clean. The wax is there for good reasons, and so we don't really have to clean them everyday. In fact, he says, if you want, I'll be the one to clean your ears every two weeks or so. That way, he says I don't cause damage to my eardrums. I want to, but it's been busy, so I clean my ears. But, not as often as everyday anymore.

hi there bulastika,
based on my own experienced, it is advisable not to clean the ears everyday. as the ear wax might be washed away by the cotton balls. aside from that, it will be prone to any infection as the ear wax are being lessened, the protection for the ear decreases. with your situation right now, it will be best to consult an EENT so that your ear will be treated with proper medication.

I do agree. But its already my daily habit to clean my ears and its feel very itchy when I stop cleaning my ear for one day. I guess I need to be patient right now. If I really want to clean my ears I need to wait at last one week. In short I will try to clean my earns once a week only. Lets see what will going to happen.

Cleaning it more often could lead and cause infection that might result to ear damage as experts says. They said that we just let our ears dirt fall out of its own to avoid infection but still we tend to clean most of the time to avoid other people to seen it dirty.
I guess we better yet clean it properly and not too much and so often.

I guess I just need to clean my ears when I'm going out. And since I'm just home bound for many years now. six years. lols. I don't think I really need to clean my ears daily as I use to do. I know sometimes the best way to be healthy is not really to be too much clean as sometimes its good to have germs to increase our immune system.

Back then I used to clean my ears daily... but now nope, I cleaned it thrice or twice a week. It isn't very dirty at all. And that is true that cleaning so much will result into having an ear infection. My younger brother when he was still young, we used to drop something into his ear when he got the infection. Because like you he always cleans his ear, it became a habit of him cleaning his ears. I do not think cleaning it twice a day is good.

I decided to clean my ears once a week only. I realize even animals don't have cotton buds and they still have clean ears so I guess theirs really nothing wrong if I'm going to clean my ears once a week also. Beside its just cost me a lot of cotton buds. two buds a day just to clean my ears.

I used to clean my ears everyday but one day it was really hurting inside so i had
to go to the doctor. Then she asked me how many times do i clean my ears. I think she saw a swell inside when I said everyday she told me, I'm not suppose to clean my ears everyday, because I might push the dirt inside instead of cleaning it properly and that, that is why they're swelling, she told me to clean them only ones or twice a week. And I can also use an earwax pile that wooden thing that looks like a tiny spoon in the end.

I will try not to clean my ear for a week and lets see what will going to happen. Maybe the reason why my ear is so itchy when I stop cleaning my ear in a day because its just too clean and theirs no wax that my expose ear canal is expose to bacterial and fungi infection. But I guess when the ear wax start to produce this itchiness will simply going to go away also.

Contrary to popular belief that home remedies including cotton swabs are necessary, ears only need regular cleaning with soap and water. Gently wash the outside of your ear daily when you shower or bathe using a warm washcloth. This regular cleaning will be enough to keep your ears healthy
If patients are experiencing a buildup of cerumen, the medical term for ear wax, some doctors suggest removal of the wax with glycerin or another over-the-counter softener. This treatment is not necessary unless you are having trouble hearing or noticing a buildup of earwax in your ears.

I now just want to stop cleaning my ears also. I know its hard to stop cleaning my ears since when I tried to stop cleaning my ears I just feel like the itch is getting stronger each hours that I don't or when I stop cleaning my ears. I'm happy that I have not clean my ears for two hours now. But I'm hoping I can keep this until one week. In this way I will just going to clean my ears once a week.

The wax is there for a reason certainly but it is meant to be cleared away so no build up and possible blockage occurs. I often clean my ears as well and while I was at the doctor's surgery the other day, he checked them and said " there is no wax build up, the ear canal is clear, that is good".
Your sister has obviously received the wrong information from somewhere. As for your infection, if that's what it is, that can come from anywhere.

Just wondering can you ask that doctor if its okay to clean your ear twice a day. Just to make sure. I want to go to a doctor but I don't have money for consultation fee so that's why I'm just here at my home. Anyway since I stop cleaning my ears for like two to three days now I don't feel any itch anymore.

Your ears may just hurt because you so often clean them out. If you lay off of them for a few days, I imagine you might feel a lot better. It really is not good to clean your ears that often. Unless you have what they call a "molasses ear." (And even then twice a day is too much.) My sister had one. Hear ears would suddenly ooze ear wax, and she would have to get a rag, hold it to her ear, to stem the flow of wax. Whereas I had no ear wax until I was twelve. Once a week is often enough to clean your ears out. The wax is for protection, but if one can just glance at your ear and see wax, then it's definitely a good thing to clean them. To keep them from getting that way, like I said, once a week is enough.

I will try to clean my ears once a week. Also. I guess this is the best way to clean my ears without getting my ears too dirty or too clean for its own good. Right now I feel okay that I did not clean my ear for a day now. Although I still clean the outer part of my ear but I never try to insert the cotton buds 10 millimeter inside my ear canal.

Earwax is actually there to trap foreign particles and bacteria so cleaning it regularly is not a bad thing but if you clean it too much, your ears wouldn't be able to make enough earwax to fully protect itself. When this happens, your ears start to itch when foreign particles enter. This can just be really tiny things that the wind blew in, but since there's nothing to trap it, it'll start to irritate your ears and make it really itchy.
Come to think of it, why do you think you have an ear infection?

Its nice that right now my ears is not itchy anymore. I guess too much cleanliness is also bad to the ear. lols. I'm happy that my ear problem is solved now. Hope that I can maintain this. Right now I don't buy cotton buds anymore. I will just going to buy in the end of the month. To to give my ear a break. lols.

I have to clean my ears after I shower or they will itch so bad. So I use a q-tip and clean my ears at least once a day. I clean my kids ears when they tell me they itch then I know they are in need of cleaning. Maybe you just pushed the q-tip to far into yourcear abd poked yourceardrum and caused an infection.

I guess this is why I develop a habit of cleaning my ears twice a day. Because of the itch. when I feel its itchy I clean my ears and now I need to clean my ears twice a day just to keep my ear itch free. Because if I don't clean my earns twice a day its become so itchy. But I realize that my ears become so sensitive because theirs no wax to protect my ears against dirt.

Your ears are supposed to clean themselves with wax flowing out freely.keep the first bit of your ears clean, but if you dig down in your ears you will get infection and could risk deafness. It is nice to have good hygeine but your sister is right, leave your ears alone!!

I will!. lols. I just going to clean my ear once a week from now on. I just don't want to have a very itchy ear that why I clean it daily. twice a day to be exact. But now I realize that the reason why my ears get so itchy because my ear is just so dry because theirs just no wax to cover my ears and the dust that enter my ears irritates my ears.

I clean my ears every day too, not twice a day though just once in the morning. It is just a habit for me and I actually really love the feeling. I think maybe it could cause some irritation if you put the bud too far into the ear but I'm not sure about infection. If I was you I wouldn't clean them for a few days to see if it heals but if it doesn't get straight to the doctor.

I will try not to clean my ear but its so itchy when I stop cleaning my ear. I want to go to a doctor but I don't have money to pay for a consultation so I really don't have a chance of going to a doctor right now .But I'm hoping that in few days I stand not cleaning my ear for a while until theirs enough earwax to protect my ear against fungi infections.

So far as I can remember many years I have not cleaned my ears as because I have never paid attention to them at all.
Oneday I felt itching in one of my ears and started to stir with a cotton bar lol and yeah tons of wax came out, I wondered.lol
Many times I used hen's feather to clean my ear. But that was not hygenic enough. And feathering ear turned in a bad habit. My right year quite ok and the left one secrets a little bit liquid but with no aching or infection. I left feathering ear thinking its a bad habit and Im quite ok now.
Cleaning twice a day looks like too much attention for the ear. We should know too much sticking to ear job is un necessary. If we clean a time a week is enough.
In case of infection, I have seen people using few drops of hydrogen peroxide in one ears. Serious infections needs to see an ENT doctor.
Stay well.

I can't live with that not cleaning my ears for years. lols. But I know cleaning my ears twice a day is just too excessive also. I'm just going to clean my ears once a week or twice a month at the longest. But I don't have plans not to clean my ears for years. lols. And I never tried to poke objects in my ears like the hen's feathers. lols.

How can our ear clean itself? Anyway I guess I just let it be. the wax will just going to coat the dirt and if theirs exist of wax its just going to fall out anyway. I still don't have money to visit ENT doctor so I really don't have a resources to find out the best way to deal with this problem in scientific way. But I guess the natural way is just let it be.

I agree with others here and your sister. I have heard that it is not a good idea to clean out your ears every day, especially not twice a day! That's a lot. You do need some wax to protect the inside of your ears. I hope your ears stop hurting soon. You might want to stop cleaning them so much!

Its so itchy now. Lols I can't help but clean it. Get a cotton buds and try to clean it dry. lols. I just feel that theirs some wax in my ear. lols. But I guess if I just let it be I will just going to use to it. I think the reason why I feel so itchy because I'm not just yet accustom to have a wax on my ears. But I guess in a week time I will just going to feel normal again.

I don't think cleaning our ears is a bad thing and would cause infection to it. Perhaps you unintentionally hurt your ears when you clean it. This will cause infections though. I clean my ears everyday when I take my bath in the morning. My ear gets dirty easily and I don't want others to see the things inside which is not really so nice to be seen. That is why I clean my ears daily to avoid embarassing myself in front of others. Of course it is for hygiene purposes too.

I think it's a bit too much to clean them twice a day. Every 2 or 3 days is fine. Well, sticking a cotton stick in your ear can hurt it, too, let alone every single day. I don't believe the infection is because the lack of way, but because it was irritated by the cotton stick.

I guess so. But if I don't clean my ear twice I day I feel that my ear is very itchy. that's why I want to clean my ears twice a day. So far I will try not to clean my earns for three days and lets see if my ears will still be itchy. I guess its only itchy because theirs no wax in my ears that protect my ear drums that's why it itchy.

I don't think cleaning the ears daily per se is bad, but the manner and intensity is especially if it starts to irritate the inner ear. Sometimes, wrong cleaning of the ear causes the earwax to be deeply imbedded in the inner ear causing impacted ear wax.
