Do you know why? When you buy pets that have been bred the others die. I'm so sure that if there weren't people breeding animals that these rescues would get more homes, too. I understand it's a business but it all seems unecessary to me. If I want a specific kind of breed sometimes I can get one too from a rescue shelter. What about you, which do you prefer?

I prefer rescue dogs too. Too many people are going into breeding dogs just for the money. One of my rescue dogs is a mini dachshund from a "back yard breeder". The poor dog has no idea of what being a family dog is about. He doesn't know how to play, the joy of being in a lap, running with the wind in his hair, or even how fun chewing a bone is. He NEVER The woman I got him from has been black listed as a puppy mill and it seems like all of her dogs end up being rescued. I had a long talk with another dachshund lover and he filled me in totally on the woman's reputation. While there are people who want to spend the huge bucks for a puppy from a breeder, they forget about all the unwanted puppies in the shelters. What is even funnier is that these people are spending huge bucks for "designer" breeds that can be a cross between a Chihuahua and a Yorkie for example. What these people don't realize is that they are still buying just a "mutt". I can't imagine the people spending thousands of dollars for a "mix" breed...when you can rescue on for under $100 from the shelter and have a loving grateful dog!!!

I meant to say that he NEVER had been in the house before I brought him home. He doesn't understand that you don't pee on everything in the house, although I have worked with him for hours and hours to get it through his head that you pee outside. He doesn't even know about chasing a cat!!! Not that I want him too, but it would have been nice to see him chase one just once.

Yea, an online friend's mother is into breeding. She grooms animals too but that I don't have a problem with. If only she just stuck to the grooming. There are so many problems with Puppy Mills, the animals are like you just said, they don't know how to do this or that. Not that I'd want them to chase a cat ever, but if they were doing it via playing it would be somewhat acceptable. I can't understand how these people you mention don't realize if they want a chi and yorkie mix, they are still a "mutt" like you said, that is too much for my mind to handle that they don't realize.

I agree, most all of mine have been also. My one cat belonged to the neighbors but he liked it better here so he stayed. I doubt they cared either way (the neighbors).

I am with you on that. My dog Sandy is a shelter rescue. She is one of the best dogs. Very loyal and lets us know when anything or anyone is near the home! I love her and she loves us.

I'm glad I'm not alone on this, these mixed breeds can be the most special kind there is, my only dog was a mixed breed and the best in the world in my opinion. A good watch dog. My parents could have treated him better but they were young and naive when it came to having a dog.
