Sometimes I don't understand this tradition
I know it important for Muslim to meet their parents or others families but why must on Idul Fitri ?? Surely they can meet each other besides on Idul Fitri.
Everyday is good day to see relatives.
Somehow I believe main reason for mudik not to celebrate Idul Fitri with relatives but for using day off work. There no mudik in other countries, just Indonesian.

No, there are 'mudik' in every cultures and countries. In a major festival everyone would like to celebrate with their loved ones and family. Christmas, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, and of course, Idul Fitri, are all festivals that the people who are celebrating will want to do that with their parents and that is the reason why they take the journey home. It is not just about meeting relatives.

Because at the time of Eid, all the family get together, because the long holiday. If it does not state a long holiday, they can not get together with family. Because, there are busy working. In addition, the Idul Fitri is a time to gather with family and apologize to each other.

I just don't get it ...
Why we must wait till Idul Fitri to forgive / apologize when we made mistake ??
Would be nice when we realized we made mistake, we apologized soon as possible and that mean we apologized with full heart. When we have to wait till celebration day, for me it look like ceremonial only. I don't think God will accept those kind apologized / forgiveness if just ceremonial.

The practice to ask forgiveness in Idul Fitri for any wrongs that one may have made is because Islam is a religion of PEACE. It is usually not particularly about any specific wrongs. It is an act to show one's determination to stay away from being offensive and rude, as well as to do things in acceptable ways. But it does not mean that one does not need to apologize per se as soon as a mistake is committed.

Indeed, every day is good, and to see relatives may at any time. But this has become a tradition in Indonesia, is the hallmark of which is owned Indonesia. Why Eid? because in this day is the right moment to get together with family and beg forgiveness to parents.
