Have you ever been fooled by a fake a profile on an online discussion site? How did you discover that he or she was fake?
I have experienced that situation on a Danish discussion site. A woman participated in the discussions and shared many things from her life. One day her "friend" started a discussion where she told the other members that the woman had died in a car crash. Lots of members wrote supportive messages for her family and told her "friend" how sorry they were to hear that the woman had died. There was just one problem. The woman never existed! Her life, her experiences and her death and everything else were made up. The "friend" had two profiles (her own profile and the fake profile)
It was one of the other members of the discussion site who discovered that something was wrong. The woman from the fake profile was supposed to live in the US and she made a couple of small mistakes where she forget the time difference. A few days after the news of her death the truth was revealed.

It is always important as not to reveal too much of our self until we truly get to know the person well. Indeed we will feel very disappointed if we are being fooled by any of our online friends. I ever came across a few of them, where i just ignored them when i discovered their real identities.

I would also be mad if I discovered that an online friend was actually a fake profile especially if it was a person that I had had many conversations with and thought that I had gotten to know quite well. I have seen fake profile on online forums, and have I also met fake profiles on chat sites and chatted with them for a while before I discovered the truth. It would be worse if you had a long friendship with someone and exchanged emails for a long time before you discovered the truth. I haven't experienced that, but I know that other people have been in that situation.

a few months ago, i started talking to someone online. he seems very nice and we still talk up to now. we are friends but i haven't met him in person. even though we talk a lot, i still cant trust him.
i tried ignoring him a lot of times already but he is always very sad and lonely so i cannot just let him down and feel alone. my boyfriend knows about it and he doesn't mind about me talking to another guy. he said i am such a good person and a friend. and besides, this guy is so young, much younger than me so i don't really mind talking to him when ever he needs a friend.

wow she had allot of effort to do that and I think she is the on fooling her self because that was wasting of time. It's pointless and non-sense, I don't understand people for doing such things like that what is that for, do they gain anything, is it worth of their lifes? I saw allot of issues like that not only in forums but also in some social networking site and fakes are posers.

I also think it is waste of time to create a fake profile. Maybe she did it because she wanted attention and because she found her own life boring and felt that they she needed to invent things to become more interesting? But I don't think that it is worth all the trouble. She must have spent quite a lot of time on her fake profile since she had to remember what she wrote in the past and avoid contradictions and mistakes She managed to fool people for a long time, but eventually the truth about the fake profile was revealed.

Porco, your story really confused me a lot. By the way, as why the woman interested to create two profile on the same discussion site? Don't the management strict about the account creation? Some sites i came across they don't allow same ip address to create two accounts in the same site. By the way, what happen to that woman later on? Is she still allow to post in that discussion site? Seems like, some people like to make surprises in this virtual world.

Maybe she was living a dull life that made her create that imaginary person. You know... to keep her busy. But, when she felt she no longer like the kind of game
that she was playing she invented a scenario that would set her free from any more pretense!

hi porcospino,
I know some mylotters who has multiple accounts, making stories and even using someone's identity . But their mistakes are they did not know how long they can handle and how long they can make another stories of them with perfect sequel.
Maybe some people believe them for awhile but truth always comes out unexpectedly
But I don't get why they need to do this, I have 2 accounts on fb but recently I deactivated the other one cause I am no longer playing some facebook games like before.
happy mylotting

I remember one mylotter who had more than one profile in the past, but he is not here anymore as far as I know. I would never create more that one profile, not just because aren't allowed to do it, but also because it would be much too complicated to remember the things that I wrote if I had more than one profile I am a member of another discussion site and one of the members there had two profiles. One day she forgot to log out and change her profile and she revealed her identity because she commented on her previous posts from the wrong profile

Hi friend, some people using fake profile in social sites, it is really hard to find this kind of persons, however they don't have the ability to hide the truth for a long time, one day we will find out the truth. Good to hear that finally people come to know about the fake person in that discussion site

I agree with that. I don't think that they will be able to hide the truth forever. One day they are probably going to make a small mistake that reveals the truth. That is what happened in the situation that I described. The women who had created the fake profile had made up a story about the fake profile. She was writing from Denmark, but she pretended to live in the US. One day she made a small mistake because she forgot the time difference and that made one of the other member suspicious. He checked her activity carefully and eventually he discovered the truth about the fake profile and told the other members about the things that he had discovered.

Maybe she is a writer and she make her own stories and make her life interesting to the readers, at the end she's tired of making post and then she killed her story so that everbody knew that her story is end .
For sure she will create another one profile with different story agaain to discuss.
