I will NEVER be late again

Yesterday was the first day of the month and I arrived at work 20 minutes late. I was disappointed with my self because I told myself that I won't be late again. Last evening while my husband and I are eating, I told him that it would be my last late for this year and I am very serious about it. So far, I arrived 5 minutes late this morning :D I travel 2.5 to 3 hours every morning and have already adjusted a few minutes so that I will surely won't be late again. Maybe the rain and strong wind recently has something to do with it. Maybe it is due to vehicles moving slower than they should be because of the wet roads that causes heavy traffic. Or maybe it is just me? Why is it so hard for some people to come on time? Any advice for people like me :D

Perhaps it's the habit that's difficult to break. Perhaps it's because one knows he/she could get away of it.
I am rarely late in my life, and if I am, it is because of a good reason. I think I have only been late less than 10 times in my lifetime and I hope it continues that way.
I think the main reason why I am rarely late is the fact that I always see to it that I prepare earlier than when it should be. I put too much 'adjustment' on time that I usually end up arriving around an hour or 30minutes prior to the time.
It's good that you're trying your best, but perhaps you should think strategically as to why you're late in the first place? Perhaps there's something that you need to be doing at night instead of rushing through it in the morning. Perhaps you expect to be moving faster that how you really are in the mornings - I do understand there are people who are not morning people.
Or maybe it's high time for you to transfer closer to work? hehe..
I guess I am fortunate that traffic isn't really congested too much here in my city. Which is why I can still afford to travel later. I could reach my workplace 15minutes or 20minutes tops. I sure hope that it goes on that way forever but heck I'm sure things are going to change and will experience that soon (knock on wood).
Anyhow, try your best and I hope you find your true 'balance'.
Have a great MyLOt experience ahead!

It sure would be nice if you could go back to the apartment, but well, you're married now and you can't only think of yourself. How bout your husband's job? Does he need to travel too?
It would be great if the two of you could transfer somewhere closer then just go home for the weekends. Indeed rain and flooding is one thing that doesn't cooperate when one needs to be early.
Good luck!

Thank you so much laydee. You really made me realized so many things because of your post. This has really become a habit because I've been doing this for years now. Arriving at work at 8am is really a challenge for me. I was actually renting near our office before for more than 6 years and I can wake up at 8 am and arrive at work before 9am. When I got married last year, I transferred to my husband's house where I am reside at the moment. And the saddest part was my work schedule was fixed to 8 to 5. I arrive at home usually at 8pm and I am so tired that I would like to go straight to our bed. But I tried to adjust again my alarm clock and woke up at 4:30 this morning. I am not late today but I am thinking of looking for an apartment nearby. It is really hard to travel during rainy season.

ha ha you should really have yourself adjusted. I really think there are people who can't be early or on time. oh i have known someone who is like this and he was such a pain to be with especially if there are engagements we have to attend to and i kept covering up for him, or i kept being late myself because of him.
I think it is your own self that can have your ways changed. you should try to change your habit of sleeping late, or you have to just try harder and wake up early and have a lot of buffer time so you won't be late on your next meeting, and so on. Being always late, or being branded as someone who is always late and everyone knows it in the office... that sure makes a lot of bad impression on your part. i guess what you can do is to just have this on your mind, use this as a motivation so you will always have something to go back to... when you ask yourself why you have to put more effort in not being late.. that is because you do not want to feel burdened as well as to what your colleagues think of you, right?

Thank you for your response. I am aware now that everyone in the office knows that I am always late. I wake up at 4am and leave home 5:10am. My service vehicle arrives at 5:25am and I do not really want to be late because he looks scary. He once got angry with me because I was around 15 minutes late during the first week. But now, I am always on time.

that is a really long way to go for work. for me door to door is about an hour and fifteen minutes. The only thing i can think of is to leave a bit earlier. I mean to have to travel that long to get to work and to come home. I feel for you. That's what I love about working for myself. I set my own hours. No clocking in for me

Thank you momma, I usually leave home at 5:30am and arrived at home at eight in the evening. I envy you that you can set your own schedule.

dear
wow! well i have some tips that might help you. the night before get everything ready. freeze breakfeast ( a quick smoothie i always good) get your clothes ready, take a shower at night etc. then set your alarm.if you have to get to work at 9 am and you commute for 3 hours then i recommend leaving at 5:30. that means waking up at 5 max. turn your clock a half hour early.

Thanks for those wonderful tips. They are really helpful. I have actually saved time for preparing my clothes and our breakfast the night before. I have already adjusted my wake up time to 4:30 am. I left home at 5am and am not late today. I hope I can manage to follow this schedule everyday. Thanks so much.

You want to be on time, that is to say, you are a person who wants to be better. I think that's the most important point for you to change yourself. Maybe you'd better leave home earlier, maybe you can ask your husband to remind you the time. I believe you can do better if you want.

Thank you for your response. I cannot really depend on my husband regarding this because he is a person that is very hard to wake up. I set my alarm clock every night and my phone alarm as well to be sure. I am doing fine now and another week has passed that I don't have a single late. I hope that it will be always like this because I had very low score on my attendance in my performance last first half of the year. Only got 2 out of 10 points. Hope I will get at least 8 on December. Attendance is one of the factors being considered in our performance ratings where our management base their decision whether you will receive a performance bonus or not. So I suppose that I won't be receiving my performance bonus because of bad records this past few months.

All you can do is leave earlier. If you know your commute is 2.5-3 hours, leave 3.5 hours early.

I guess you need to adjust your time more. You should leave home much earlier than the time you left today especially when it's raining. I guess we have to expect the unexpected like heavy traffic, vehicular accidents, etc. that will cause us late. Other people, they adjust their time 30 minutes in advance so that they won't be late. For me, I just leave the house early for me not to get caught in a bad traffic jam.

anything can happen during your travel to the office. so beside come to office earlier than as usual, you also have to prepare yourself for anything else that disturb you during travel.for example, the weather will be so rainy, so you must bring the raincoat or if the train was very slower or may be traffic jam on vehicle, you also must anticipate this by take a taxi or something else. 2.5-3 hours on road is very tiring, may be you must come 60minutes earlier than usual

I usually sleep early, then wake up early to make it on time. There's nothing we can do about the volume of vehicles at any given day and time, as well as the weather which are indeed one of the factors in considering one's travel time. Given that, just always anticipate the worse. It is better to be early than hustling to make it.

Hello paper_Doll
Perhaps it's better to adjust the time you wake up. For instance, your work will start at 8 am and you need to travel 2.5 so I guess it's better to wake up 4:30 or 5 am...Time management is really needed..:)
