There is a old person working in our area, I guess that he is delaying his retirement since the economy force him to do so. He is a dedicated, hard worker, no doubt, but sometimes, he just repeat over and over what he said, we just laugh it over, and not intend to give him too much trouble on it. For instance, he inform us about the change on the diagram on the database is already effective yesterday, we already nod our heads, and told him we knew. Then he would continue to repeat it all over again and again. We just let it go, since he is old, or he might worry we didn't hear him well. Anyway, sometimes we just have to tolerable when we work with elderly, and be respected to them.

Yeah. This is very true. I think it is because they lose track of their memory that they said the word already. hehehe. As you tend to get older, you lose brain cells and memory capabilities.

I used to encounter even not old people but tend to be repetitive. I don't know why but maybe it's a habit to them to be repetitive. Sometimes I catch myself when I talked to someone and then I become repetitive to the topic.

Yes oldies tend to be repetitive. Maybe they are turning like child. Isn't it that kids do also tend to be repetitive? But we have to just be patient with them. Let us remember that someday soon we will also be old like them and who knows we might just be repetitive too.

I don't think so. My professor is aged 80. He can speak well without repeating what he has said. It may be true but not for all old people.

Hi, I think that this is common to elderlies. They usually say something repeatedly I guess that it has something to do with deteriorating memory. They might have forget that they have already said it. In my experience, some oldies already have selective memory. They can only remember some parts of their lives and would continue to repeat telling about it to other people. My husband's grandmother is the same. She always ask my name and never remembers it. Once I told her again for the 9th time, she will start telling me stories about their past, like how my husband behave when he was still a kid, that this is how they lived on the past etc. She repeats those stories over and over again. But there are also people, usually women, who tends to repeat saying things that have already brought up already. They repeatedly open old and past topics as if those have happened just recently. This kind of behavior can be irritating and may be one of the reason why some husband beat their wives :D

hmm... That's right, you rhsould tolerate him/her because he/she is older than you. But In my families I rarely met old people like that, because all of my family is always active, so they do not get dementia or something like forgetful mind...

It is a good thing, that you did not mock at the elderly fellow. Yes, it happens with ageing... The brain does not function normally and we tend to forget things... The old people repeat things for many reasons.. Sometimes, they're just feeling lonely and they want to be heard... Sometimes, it is the weak memory.. It becomes our duty to take care of 'em and make sure they're not hurt... Good job, friend... Keep it up!

Old people usually become forgetful at a certain age. It's quite annoying but imagine how we were when we were learning how to talk. We also repeated a lot of words when we talked with our parents or to other people. We were like parrots. We told them the same stories a lot of times and the like. So somehow, we have to respect our elders because when we were young they did their best to understand us. We have to understand them, too.

If he is constantly repeating himself he could be suffering from Alhemizers (sp) or demintia (sp). It is best to not laugh at him or tease him because both diseases are true and it is not his fault that he is repeating himself. He may not realize that he is doing so.

As people grow old, they tend to forget things and therefore they keep repeating them. It is very nice of you to understand that old man, and not to trouble him or make fun of him. It is true we must keep patience with the elderly people just as our elders used to be patient with us in our childhood. Being children we would keep repeating one thing and our elders would listen to us with a smile on their face.

When our grandfather was still alive, we only see each other ocassionally. But when each time comes, we already anticipate the topic that we are going to discuss. He will tell us stories when we were still little kids. He really remembers each and every detail of it. That's why I really can't forget about it because it was like nailed in my brain. lol... But I missed him...

Oh, that is funny! And that is so good of you guys to give it to the old guy. I believe that we will be treated in our old years the same way we treat our elders now. And I also have to give it to the company you work for for still letting him do his work there. It is kinda sad that an old guy will still go and work that way because he can't afford to retire and the economy isn't helping him any. At least, he's so self-reliant.

Older people that we may work with do repeat a lot of what they have already said. I do not know why but this same kind of thing seems to happen if we pay attention to members in our own family, especially the older ones. It can be a bit distracting only if that old person that is repetitive in their speech is obnoxious. However, if we as the younger generation take heed to some of the things they say we may learn a thing or two. I say this because if we are blessed enough one day to reach their age we may find ourself being in the same role as the older one that has moved on. We can learn a lot from more experienced people and some young ones to. What are your thoughts on this discussion?
