Graveyard or Day job?

Here in my country, lots of people work in call centers. And their jobs require them to work at night and sleep during the day. I tried doing this kind of job but I only lasted one week. My body was so stressed with the lack of sleep that I lost weight in a matter of days, better than any weight loss product. Do you prefer to get up early in the day to begin work, or would you rather get up later in the day and work until late in the evening?

I have tried the graveyard shift thing when I was reviewing for the board exams. I chose the schedule where my classes end at 6pm so I have the whole night to study, and all morning to sleep. It was effective when studying as most people are sleeping and there's nobody who can disturb me. After a month or two, my health deteriorated so bad I have to switch classes. Until now, I cannot even stay up late at night because I will be paying for it for 3 days. Besides, nothing beats a good night's sleep for me.

I did this when I was reviewing for the CPA board exams for 6 months. I only lasted a couple of months because of health issues for staying up late. By the time I took the exam and passed, I am already a size 4. Now I'm an 8 . (I'm working on going back to 6).

I actually studied mostly from 4am-6am when I was in my college days. It works for me. You only have to sleep early in the evening. And it's better for studying because nobody could disturb you.

If I work in a call center, I would like what everybody wants – a day shift account. I must admit that I can work with late hours but I don’t think I can do it with a regular basis. I mean, what’s best is always what we already are experiencing –working at the day because that’s how our bodies are designed. I do know some people who can withstand night or graveyard shift but it really isn’t for me.

My friends always tell me that eventually they have to find another job that's not a graveyard shift because they will die early. Not to mention the risks involved in going out late at night.

I know that I wouldn't be able to work at night time, because I have to be able to be in a good routine of sleep or I am just not able to function at all. I have a job in which I am able to work whichever hours I want to without having to worry, and that's great for me as it means that I am just able to get things done as and when I need them, and if I don't need as much money one month then I just don't have to work as much during that time. It really is as simple as that, and it is something that I do enjoy being able to do.

As a nurse, I have to go on a graveyard duty for at least 3-4 times a week. Graveyard shift is something I'm dreading. I hate the feeling where I have to go to work while I see people having a good sleep. I'd rather get up at 5am than getting up at 10pm.

whoah. this is one of the disadvantages of being a nurse right? the graveyard shift. It's not something that a person can get used to. I hope you're still doing well. Have a good day.

Working In the day is the usual or is the better option i guess. call center jobs are like that in the night. But if one does not have any option then it is okay at least one is earning for survival. There are lots of jobs that have shift work but call centers are forever night shift..lol have a wonderful day.

I am a morning person so I would rather work during the day. I have tried working different shifts and night as well. It takes a lot of adjustment. When I was working nights, I felt that even I have slept throughout the day, it felt like I haven't slept at all. It took me months to adjust.

I agree. that's why I quit working on a call center company. I am now working from 2pm to 11pm so I have the luxury to sleep and wake up late.

It's 1:20 AM here in the Eastern part of the USA as I write this. I'd rather be up and working this late at night then any other time. When I've worked a third shift I always felt as if I hadn't worked at all and when I came home and went to sleep, I'd wake up feeling refreshed and relaxed. It was great.
Right now I work only twice a week from right after supper time basically to the first hour of the new day.
I love that shift as it may start busy but it gets slower and is much more relaxing when you have you yourself and I to work with.
Not everyone can do this. Now me, I can be up at night no problem. I prefer it actually. When I have to wake up early in the morning I am cranky.

Maybe you can adjust after a month with that schedule. At first, you'll feel very sleepy and you lack sleep especially if you can't sleep during the day. I don't have a graveyard shift but I work at 2pm to 11pm so I sleep around 1am and get up around 11am. I also had my part time before so I only had almost 5 hours of sleep. After two weeks, I was able to adjust with my new schedule.

I don't think my body could adjust to those hours. It's difficult. Most of the time I can only sleep 3 hours a day since I get distracted with even just a small noise. I'm a light sleeper so I wake up quickly when I hear a sound.

Both are fine with me since i already experienced both. Morning and Night Shift. My work changes every month, from morning shift to night shift. At first, it was so stressful for me but after 2 to 3 months, My body already adjusted to that kind of schedule.
If i'm on my rest day, i make sure to have a good rest and sleep. I just stay at home, eating good food and just rest. Lastly, i make sure to have a regular check up and drinking vitamins.
But if i have a chance to choose, i will choose the Morning shift. :)

graveyard or day job? for me is ok to have a day job. bec. you will not be sick, if you be been sick its your body that need help. while in a graveyard job yes you have a good compensation, but there is always a cause, bec. a sleeping doc. told that its good at night sleep, rather than a day sleep. if you have a 5 hours or less sleep is that more prone to sickness, if you like to sleep in the day time your room must be dark,. and the graveyard is so stress, bec. they have a quota, to make in a phone call, most graveyard is a call center work. bec. in night here in the phillipines is morning in the usa. good day and always take care of your self
