Why do people remember yesteryear legends and people only after they pass away?

All of us know the proverb that "Old is Gold",probably because it is the easiest proverb to remember. But the way today people look after the old people it seems that Gold has no value at all these days.About ten days ago India's first superstar Rajesh Khanna passed away.During his hero days(1969-1975),he had such a fan following that other men used to envy him.Girls used to marry his photographs, turn his white car red with their lipsticks and write him love letters with their own blood.
But as the law of gravitation states Everything that goes up,comes down and the downfall of the legendary superstar was steeper than his climb. After 1975,he was completely forgotten. No one even bothered about him.But when he suddenly died at the age of 69 just a few days ago,all the media attention was back on him or should I say his dead body. The media hailed him as a great actor,a good human being, etc.
But-"WHERE WAS THE MEDIA WHEN HE WAS ALIVE?"The media people were going gaga over him because they knew it would become a huge story.
Similarly when some other old people die after suffering a lot in their old age, many people come to their funeral,to talk something nice about the deceased and complete some other formalities. But the question is why couldn't they come little earlier when the person was well and alive. This is the human mentality. When we have something we don't recognize its value but when it is lost forever we mourn and cry over it.

That's the Media for You...so long as someone is being famous and doing exciting and interesting things, they'll write about them, and the Paparazzi will follow them in packs so people will buy newspapers, take more interest in their shows and Movies, want merchandise..
Once that time is over, when they've retired from the fame game to live quietly, their newsworthiness is no longer a consideration, and the "New" stars are turned to instead..
The old stars fade away and get forgotten..It's only that their passing is Newsworthy that their moment comes again..

The point you made about paintings and its painters is quirky but to the point.Rajesh
could have retained his numero uno position if the media would have stood beside him. But that was not meant to be. And now he must be "romancing" the angels in heaven.
