So far we have had a beautiful Summer here on the West Coast of the US, but we have been warned that the heat is coming, in a big way. 105, by Sat. We are soaking our fields to help keep the llamas cool. We will run sprinklers all day as soon as the temp gets past 95. And we will be susre to watch them carefully for heat stroke.
Llamas are not built for extreme heat as the big camels are. They are not normally found in the desert areas. I even have one that will lay in the water most of the day but he is only one the rest just like to be sprayed now and then. I am very glad we got the whole herd sheared this year.

I guess I think of them as mountain animals or something. I imagine that hair is quite a burden when it gets really warm. We have had tons of days over 100 this year. I know that there is a lot of llama ranching around here so it will be interesting to see what we learn about at the state fair.

We have lots of water here just last night I was very nervous because of the heavy rain so much pouring all over my country. As of now the flood is inside my house. I can see a river in my window outside the street.

As you know, friend, we are in Winter now. But besdes the weather, I always wonder about your llamas. For me, llamas are part of our country´s altiplano, in the far north. There are places where thay use llama´s wool for seaters and ponchos. I prefer alpaca wool because it´s softer. What do you do with the wooll you get?
