Disagreeing with a Post, does that Justify giving a Negative Rating?

What criteria do you specifically consider when deciding to give a mylot user a positive rating or a negative rating? I'm curious to know how many people actually give negative ratings just for disagreeing with what someone posts. I only give a negative reading if someone is purposely spamming or intentionally being disrespectful. What about you?

Hi friend, i am not interested in giving -ve to others, it will affect their earnings, most of the time i will give +ve to others, if i find the reply is irrelevant or useless, i just left it without giving any rating.

Giving negative ratings because you disagree with someone's point of view is wrong. This is a discussion. We are not supposed to all be in total agreement all the time or there really wouldn't be much to actually discuss now would there? Disagreeing is fine as long as we act like polite mature adults. I'm reluctant to negative rate someone but I occasionally will. Usually because they post something that is rude or has nothing whatsoever to do with the discussion. Generally when I encounter something worthy of a negative rating I turn a blind eye. I've had my rating trashed before and I would rather err on the side of leniency.

I don't use the negative rating but use the report sign instead. There is no use rating them negative (mylotters who respond negatively) We should remember that, rating others negative or using the negative sign will also decrease our rating...so I never dare to use that negative sign and use the report sign. I don't want my ratings to decrease....

I wasn't aware that the negative button had other affects, thanks for letting me know.

I don't give negative rating when someone disagrees with me, I only give negative ratings if someone disagrees with me in a rude way, for example there are ways to say you disagree. If you're rude when you disagree with someone, then i give a negative rating or if they're being disrespectful I give negative rating and report them. Some myLotters give you negative ratings if they don't like your post or if it doesn't make sense.

There are language barriers here on mylot as well, I bet a lot of people use the negative button when they can't understand the post either. Thanks for you input.

Well i dont think there is any negating rating for disagreeing with a post as every one has his/her right to express their feelings without any inhibitions and this is what is encouraged on Mylot. But if someone is spamming or is intentionally being disrespectful then he/she should have his/her post removed from the Mylot. What say?

I agree with you and I'm happy to say that I don't come across disrespectful comments very often, it must be closely monitored which is a good thing.

I still have not given anyone a negative rating. I have not come across any such discussion that I felt negative about. I am cool with it. have a good day.

I'm sure that there are people who post horrible things, they just get deleted really fast which is good. You have a good day too, thanks.

Just as in life, I normally just move on...unless some-one is blatantly attacking one of my dear friends here, and then I find it more effective to report if there is clear disrespect and spam. I think, possibly I have used the negative button, once or twice in my time here, and then questioned my actions after, as I believe it really does no good! Either a plus rating, NO rating, or if needed, just report! I am like a Mother Grizzly Bear tho' if my friends are attacked..

Sounds like you're a good friend to have, looking out for your friends like that is nice. I agree, if something deserves a negative in my books then it probably just needs to be reported to have something done about it. Thanks for commenting.

I think it has a lot to do with my upbringing...insubordination was NOT acceptable behaviour! Quite often, I don't fit comfortably in today's world with each and all speaking their mind so freely! LOL! We used to practice a lot of "bite your tongue!" Some things just remain ingrained! Thank you kindly for the nice compliment! Have a spectacular day!

I have trouble with making friends because I have a hard time with people who have big mouthes and talk behind peoples backs, sadly a lot of people are like this.
