Anthony get 37 points in 14 minutes, how crazy! MJ never got so man points in national team. we all know Anthony has great talent, and he is a excelent attracter in NBA, his defend needs to improve but his skills of getting points are great. do you think Anthony is the best attracter in NBA?

He's a great offensive player but I don't think he's the best. I think both Lebron James, Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant are at least his equals. Beating up on Nigeria really doesn't prove much. If anything it might give the Americans a big head and not take future opponents seriously enough.

This is an interesting take, koop. I agree with you about the other players having Anthony's same offensive abilities. I, too, fear that USA fans may be making a little too much out of running Nigeria out of the building. While they may have put on a great performance, everyone knows that kind of performance is not sustainable at all. While I share your concern that this might cause the USA to relax and maybe not take their next opponents seriously, I do not think it will affect them enough to stray them from the gold medal path. On the subject of Melo, I think he just had one of those nights you dream about, where the basket is huge and seemingly everything you put up goes in. That 3 point shooting has to have included some kind of record, right?

If Kevin Durant had those shots, he would've knocked them cold the same way Carmelo did, the only difference is that Kevin Durant can do it on most days while Carmelo is a bit streaky with his outside shooting.

I don't think Anthony is the man in their national team now. There are just times when a player is on fire. Defense-wise, I agree with you that he needs to improve it. Anthony is a great scorer but I think he isn't that type of team player. He always need a ball and sometimes make bad decisions.

From my vantage point of view, there's so many players in the NBA who can attract a defense from the opposing team. Kobe and Lebron are good examples of it and it's not only Carmelo Anthony. There's a lot out there.
