borrowing money and neglecting..

How many people in this world are acting this way? They borrow and then just ignore their obligation to return what they owed you.
Someone borrowed money from me few weeks ago and promised me to return the money after few days but it didn't happen. It was just a small amount but I'm just sad how people can be like this..
Maybe insufficient money is the cause or lack of guts to face me but I need to know the reason for the delay.

maybe its the reason why the bible said that if you lend something to somebody, prepared to receive no pay. i do not know the exact word but its something like if you want to lend something to somebody, think of it as if you gave it already and not expecting for return.

oh I think that will help. I second that idea of yours. Whatever we lend to others especially to those in need will be returned to us by God a thousand folds. I gave a tip before to that person and it was from the bottom of my heart. But this time, I know the difference of owed from the word gave. Maybe I'll just think that I gave it. thanks francis.

I'm familiar with that passage from the bible.
It's just a small amount for me to decline..
anyway, it's right to never expect anything but it's a different story if the amount is material. You are welcome, It's okay, I can understand your English.

i am glad that you accept the words. i also agree with you that whatever you did will be replaced by God. it is said in the bible that God is not unrighteous to forgot all your good doings.
it became my guide when somebody want to borrow something from me. if i can not give it, i just say i'm sorry.
maybe there is a lesson here that if you will expect return, it will just give you a bad impression of your friend if he was not able to pay. and many other things. my English is not good. i hope you understand hehe.

I think anyone who needs and borrows money act this way. This is the reason why I am always reluctant to lend money because of this certain attitude. Call me a Scrooge but I think many borrowers are selfish when they conveniently forget their obligation to pay, especially when the lender is their family or friend.
My mother and my aunt are well-known lenders in our area even though they don’t like to lend money to people (unless they know the borrower personally). They taught me (and by experience) that some people are clearly insensitive and shameless when it comes to money. This is the reason why they have lists and written contracts regarding people who borrow from them.
I understood that some people are not good in handling their money or might encounter bad luck in their finances. However, many people forget that money is not only the object in this transaction – there is also trust and expectation. And if those were also broken, things are not just catered on money anymore. Anyway, hope that they will pay you soon. I am also in the same situation. I hope I will not be led into serious fights because of money. Then again, I might as well prepare.

so true, it's not only about the money here but the trust and let me add the friendship as well.
maybe they are really in bad situation but not to explain what's happening and as if there was nothing owed to you is really a different story.
thanks hope you they will pay you also.

There are countless of them I guess. It's just so sad that after their due and you will be going to get the money they have lots of reason and sometimes even get mad at you. So lame. They seem so helpless when they need help but after you have helped them they just neglect it. Anyway time will come that all the people around them will not lend a helping hand anymore.

yes, they get mad that is proven.. even if they don't do it in front of me, they hold grudge. they don't think how many days their debt is due, what they only know are the reasons to tell you.

In general, I think it is a bad idea to lend money to a friend if you want your friend to remain your friend. But after saying that I guess you should really find out why your friend needs the money. People borrow money for various reasons; some may need it to pay for esential food items, school fees, bills, medical fees etc while others are borrowing to feed their bad habits like gambling, drinking, smoking etc. They will usually tell you the reason if their needs are genuine. Do not lend them money to feed their bad habits. If you can afford it then it's better that you give him the money and consider it as a gift rather than expecting him to repay you. If you cannot afford it then perhaps you can help find some other ways of making extra income like recommending him a part time job, etc. These are just my opinions.

too many friendships were broken because of money. others are trying to get close to the people they think they could borrow money and then when it's time to pay, they gone. I definitely won't lend money to someone who will just use it for gambling or any bad vices. yes, it's better to help them how to fish than to always give them a fish. thanks.

Hi friend, sad to hear about this, most of the people are in this sort, they can do anything to borrow the money, after getting money they forget about every thing and not interested in paying the debts, some of the fake friends are in this sort, better to keep distance from them

hello there, I agree. some are just pretending to be your friends and all of sudden they will borrow and forgot to pay you. so sad, others are just thinking about their own benefits.

Hi,
When somebody borrows money from me, I don't know why but I noticed they always ask how much is the interest by the time I hand them the money. I always say "no interest,
but make sure to give it back on time because I don't like to keep reminding you, when it's over due" aside from people close to me meaning a family member. Those who borrowed from me, never fail to give it back on time, but when a member of my family borrows money from me, I always ask them jokingly " are you borrowing or asking " ofcourse they will say " borrow", and when they borrow it actually means asking. @_@.

Hi meumeu, you made me smile maybe I should imposed an interest to those who are borrowing from me or even penalty for the number of days delayed but it's not my business and I think they are in need that's why they borrow.. but sure that's the best way to let them pay on time.
I really don't like to ask them for their payment..
well, it's good to know that you haven't experienced being unpaid for the money they owed you. as for your family, when they borrow again just consider it as if you gave it, it's proven! anyway they are your family thanks

A lof of people do that because they are in debt. They borrow money from one person to pay another person. Life is so difficult for them. Maybe, their income is insufficient and they have a lot of children so it's not enough for them. I hope they will not promise if they can't make it on time.

There are so may people like that who ignore their responsibilities. It is okay if they can't pay on time as long as they know their responsibility and would try to explain why is that so and not just ignoring as if nothing happens.

what is really bothering me is every time we come across each other, nothing is said as if there was nothing owed from me.. I'd like to think that being so ashamed is the reason. I deserve to be informed why. Thanks ardoy.
