Expertscolumn's New Writing Guideline

Help! And I mean help! Can anyone translate me this new writing guideline from Expertscolumn? 'Substantiate claims when writing about medical facts, legal opinions and any other topics which involves facts or figures, otherwise we will remove your column'. I am really terrified of deletion. Does this mean that we should stick to poetry?

It is nothing so serious and there is no mention of any poetry here. If we tend to write articles in medicine, research etc.., we should give proper facts and figures and not write on imaginary guesses. That is all.

Hi kalav, what will be the sources of facts, a writer can pick from? Wont this picking be regarded as plagiarism?

You will have to post the link also and not show it as your own.

Hi, then let's give them sources if that's what they want. I got confused about the term 'substantiate citations' lol... It's clear to me now, thanks. And about sticking to poetry, I was only joking for it seems to be the safest.

Hey friend, Now this is something serious. I have not had a look at EC today but this new guideline is going to pose some problems. From what I read I understand that they now want us to cite sources to back up any facts we provide in our articles. It is going to take us some extra work to do that. I have never written poetry on EC as I do not have skills for that. But my columns are generally those that express my thoughts. Now this is going to be extremely stressful if I have to go over each article and see which one has figures provided so that I can provide citations.

So, substantiate claims only means that we should provide references. Silly me, the term is really new to me lol... I was thinking of something else. Anyway, I was joking about 'sticking to poetry' because it seems to be the safest not unless it was plagiarized or contains less than 300 words. I was going to publish new articles at EC yesterday when I saw that new guideline. I got confused so I decided to postpone. It's good to see you here oindy and thanks.

Hi Phoenix, there is nothing to worry about, unless you are going to write about different medical fact. if you write an article about heart disease affecting a certain number of people every year, make sure you get the figure right, and quote the source. For example, you can write that you read about this in the local newspaper, and you have to put the date, and the name of the journalist, so that readers know that you are reporting a fact.

Yes, so we'll just have to cite sources from now on. Thanks Scheng for the response :)

it means that we must be careful when we write the article related medicine, legal opinions..we must include the statement from the expert or our article is deleted

Nothing to worry in this term, if you write articles about medical facts or legal related things or some real facts you must submit the proof that you are right, it is because some persons will give their own opinion, some times it is against to the real thing. If you submit your proof or source thing, EC admin will get the reality in your article and publish it there forever, if your article is against the real fact, it will be removed

Yes, that is correct. I guess, well have to include references from now on ... if we are going to write articles that needs proofs.

Hi. From what I understand, that simply means that you have add references or sources if you write about academic topics like medicine, law and other topics with factual data. Basically, they just want you to cite the sources. LOL. happy mylotting. Hope to seeing more of you in mylot.
