Roger Federer kept alive his dreams of winning the Wimbledon and the Olympic gold in the same year by beating Del Potro in an epic semifinal at the Olympics. In the longest ever match at the Olympics, Federer and Del Potro slogged for 4 and half hours before Federer finally triumphed 19-17 in the final set. It was heartbreak for Del Potro as this match did not deserve a loser!!
As far as Roger Federer is concerned he now has one match to go to realize his dream!!
Cheers!

I really like both players, but more of Federer. It's sad to Del Potro because this Olympics games could mark his recovery and for what I know Argentina still don't have a gold medal and it would be very important to his country. But, I'm happy that Federer won and I'll be rooting to him against Murray.

That is very true that this match really doesn't deserved a loser. I would like to appreciate efforts of Potro over such a display with Federer. It will be a real boost for him for the upcoming tournaments. On the other hand Federer is sailing along the path for his Gold quest. I also would congratulate both of them for being a piece in making this Olympics a success which is waiting for more of such nail biting competitions.

Wow, I wish I had seen the match myself, it sounds like it was a great final match. A few things I noticed, though:
1. It's weird that the match is only 3 sets, yet does not have a tiebreaker for the final set (possibly resulting in these kinds of matches if the opponents are close, I would think).
2. Roger Federer is making a serious resurgance, although you have to wonder if Nadal getting knocked out early at Wimbledon helped Federer's cause a lot (I think it did dramatically).
3. This final match between Federer and the winner of Murray/Djokovic (ongoing as I write this) will be quite exciting as far as Olympic tennis goes. While I know it isn't as big as a Grand slam, a gold medal would be pretty sweet to add to the Wimbledon title to complete Federer's dominance on grass recently.

It was a semi-final and not a final. As far as Olympic Tennis is concerned they have based it on old tennis rules, so no tie-break. The final is going to be between Federer and Murray which is a repeat of this year's Wimbledon. It just kicked off at the center court, Wimbledon.
Cheers!
