Chicago Bulls - Contenders this Year?

After watching the NBA schedule release SportsCenter show about 2 weeks ago or so, I noticed that they seemed to cover all the contending teams except the Chicago Bulls. While they lost Omer Asik and others to free agency and such, they add some nice shooters (Bellinelli and Hinrich (welcome back to Chicago after a few year absence, eh?)) and a veteran big man in Nazr Mohammed, among others.
Of course, the big elephant in the room is Derrick Rose's ACL. I know, he injured it in the playoffs, so he will likely be out for a lot of the year. However, note that the Bulls managed to survive with a decent record even without Rose last season. You'd have to think, though, that once Rose is back and healthy again (by the next playoffs, probably, with the advances in the medical field), they could be contenders in the East once again.
What do you all think about the Chicago Bulls' 2012-13 NBA season?

without rose, the chicago bulls is not a contender in the eastern conference. the new acquisitions of the bulls and the return of hinrich will bolster its chances of advancing to the playoff while retaining the core of the players. with rose healthy, then it is sure that the bull will be a strong contender. last year, they were the top seed.

I agree, they will go pretty much as far as Derrick Rose takes them. It's worth noting that they were the top seed when Derrick Rose had more of a one man show in his MVP year, and that was pretty much their downfall in the ECF against the Heat. I definitely think Hinrich and others will provide Rose some much needed help, hopefully making their playoff run interesting next year (if there is one, of course).

I think they will go for the 8 seed in the east. If Rose is helthy, the bulls will rise in the playoffs. So, there will be an upsets in playoff seedings.

I would say they are probably not giving the Bulls organization enough credit. They did fall apart in the playoffs when Rose went down against a team that was definitely not a contender. I don't think they had a chance to regroup when that happened. I think the Bulls will do well next year. Rose is such a big question mark though. How soon will he regain his form? Once he's back how fragile will he be as a player? Can they go further if he gets hurt again? I'm not a Bulls fan but I hope they have a good season next year. I hope Rose comes back and plays as good as he ever has. It's all good for the game.

I agree, I think Rose is one of the great young superstars in the NBA. It is true that there are a lot of question marks surrounding him and the Bulls organization, though. The way that rose plays is very dangerous and I would be concerned about a re-injury. While I'm not a Bulls dan either, I think it would make for great TV if they could get back to the ECF and play the Heat again; I think the Bulls have what they need now (moreso than 2 years ago at least) to make it a compelling series if it were to happen.
