OHH, I had a co-worker like that I and literally wanted to do him bodily harm just to make him stop talking about how great he was. Then he made a very large work related mistake, tried to blame me (but he was on video doing it) and my boss fired him on the spot. A few days later he came back and apologized for being such an 'a--' for the entire time he worked her, and for trying to lie and blame me. I accepted his apology, but as a manager I still can't be a good referral for him (which is why he was apologizing) because his work ethic was sub par for as much as he talked up about himself.

Yup, I had a colleague before whom acted 'know-it-all' all the time and it was really irritating. She almost made me believe that I was stupid and that I did not know what I was doing. Good thing we are not colleagues anymore

Yes dear, there are super hero colleagues in everywhere in the world. They think that they are the only person, who can do everything all others are rubbish. Nobody is comparable to him/her. Have a very nice day.

People like this, who are big know-it-alls are not confined within the work environment alone; they're everywhere, even in our own family. These people have so much confidence in themselves and very little with others that they think they do not need anybody else for they know more than anyone else they know. In some ways, they are pitiful because more often than not, people shun away from them so they're alone most of the time. They also miss the important learning process of engaging other people and learning from different people's life experiences.
