What will you do if the food is dropped on the table?

When you are eating, sometimes the food will be dropped on the table by a mistake. What will you do? Will you just ignore it or pick it up and then eat it? Most of the time I will still pick up the food and then eat it since I don't really want to waste the food

It seems most of us will eat food if we drop it on our own table, and that is good. I know I do not eat food if it drops on a restaurant table, as I am not sure they clean it really well.

Hi youless, it depends on where I'm taking food. my home table is always clean and I would like to wipe it before having meal as well. It has been a habit for us to pick up the dropped food certainly. This won't happen when having in food court especially for those wet gravy food, for dust or any other unseen dirt may stick to it easily. But big peace of food like chicken wing or drumstick is exception. I would get a bowl of hot water and get it soaked for a short while to shake away the dirtiness suspected for mentally purpose Have a nice day

Kids usually would pick up the tiny dropped food like a single rice, green pea, etc at home, for they were taught to value food since the first time they tried to eat themselves. I had seen people picked up dropped food from their lap while eating out

Hi, Usually our dining table is clean so when any food is dropped on it by chance I pick it up and eat it just like you as I too don't like wastage. Nice to find that we have similar views. In my country, a lot of people do not get to eat two full meals a day and it is not nice for us to waste food. This logic always works in my mind. If however I am in a restaurant and food is dropped on the table, I do not pick it up to eat because too many people are eating there every day and I cannot know how clean the table is.

It depends on the situation. Where it was dropped, on what kind of food, and for how long did it fell. Here in our place we have this kind of notion that we can still eat the food as long as it is not more than 5 seconds. If the food fell in a clean place without a doubt we can still eat it.

Dropping on the floor will be different because I regard it as dirty.

I normally don't pick it up at all because no one can guarantee the table surface is 100% free from germs. In this case, I rather be safe than sorry; I'd rather waste the food than to put myself at risk of getting a bout of diarrhoea and hence suffer. The only exception is if the food I dropped is extremely expensive, for example abalone. But fortunately, I have never dropped something THAT expensive before on the table!

It all depends on where the food was dropped. If it was at my own home I would pick it up as my table is always clean before I start my meal. However, if I'm dining at some other places like restaurants, eating stalls, etc I would definitely give it a miss and discard it. Who knows what sorts of germs or contaminants are present on the surface of the table. Better to waste some food than to end up with food poisoning! Have a good day.

Hi youless, its funny reading the responses to your discussion.. Everyone talking about if the table is clean but who eats from a dirty table especially knowing it isn't clean, even eating in a resturant, Do you actually sit down and eat at a table that you think may not be clean,,,WOW!!!!!! but yes I will if my food drops on the table because I am going to eat at a clean table even at a resturant...because I have no problem asking them to please wipe of the table I am being seated. But if the table has a tablecloth on it, I would think you could tell if its clean or not...My table has a tablecloth on it...

for me, i will pick it up and eat it =) just as what you mention, i also don't like to waste the food. if drop on the table is still ok for me, if drop on the floor, maybe it is really no good for us to eat it. but to treasure the food, i will just give it to the bird or dog to eat if the food has drop on the floor.

If the food is solid and dropped in our table here in our house I usually pick it up and then it because I know that our table is clean and the food is safe to eat, and don't want to waste food too. But if the food dropped in fast food restaurant or in other place I just ignored it and pick it up later after eating and just throw it for my own health safety reason.

I also don't like throwing food, that's why I always use large plates to put our meals on. That keeps us apart of dropping anything on the table. But still I am putting some bread slices near my plate on the table. Usually I am very squeamish, but since it all happens at home and I do my best to have the things clean around, I am o.k. with keeping my bread on the table.
