Is Metallica done?

This legendary thrash-metal band is still alive. However, it is quite obvious that the attempt to write as well as they did in the 80s is always falling lower than expected. Their last album was nothing like "And Justice for All." Even though they claimed it would be.
Do you think it is time for Metallica to retire? Or are they able to pull some new and fresh ideas?

Ive always thought Megadeth were better simply for the agression behind it.
Like I said in my previous comment Metallica has always sounded polished like they took way too much time mixing it.

I think they are not done yet. They are on the way to produce their new album and expected to be released in early 2014. I'm waiting for the day they release this album. Well I hope they will come out with new good song like before.
I think they still active in concert tour. We can always get update their concert info in their website.

I don't know if they are able to pull fresh new ideas anymore it seems as all there new stuff just keeps downing down hill. Maybe they should stop making new stuff and just tour with the old stuff. When they are in concert they still know how to rock.

i think it's because so many new bands now,, metal music is youth's music. and metal is not only about the music but also the fashion style ,, the now the youth generation prefer to listen to the brand new metal music and fashion then metallica the old one,, which is not relevan in this era , eventhough metallica make an album as grat as "and justice for all" .. this is only my perception :)

You don't have sold out stadiums if you are done.Maybe they have failed to live upto the expectations of their earlier three albums but that is true with every artist.
You can also say that Michael Jackson too couldn't make another Thriller or Bad but does it make him less of a legend. They are humans too.
Moreover they are not in their 20s now, It's tough to rock in 50s.

dear ivan ,
as times have changed people run out of their good music , they can't always keep on producing their best albums. but still they still have some very interesting and talented band members, and lets just hope for their best.
