Guilty for Nothing

Whenever I get back to work after being absent for even just a day or longer, I always feel guilty even if I had a valid reason for not reporting to work like when the times I got sick. I don't know if it is just me or if it a natural feeling for employees.
I always think, why would I be guilty, I did not play hooky or something. But still.. I can't shake the guilt which I don't even know what for.

I feel the exact same way and I always feel like I am going to miss something when I miss days at work. Yet my co-worker can call out sick every other week and be happy as a clam when she comes back, like she didn't just make everyone elses job harder because we have to pick up her slack AND she can complain the two times in three years I've been out sick- twice in three years, and she complained that it was hard while I was gone.
My husband thinks it's because I am a work-aholic is why I feel guilty when I call out sick, even when I am so sick I can't move, I feel like I should be at work, doing what I have to do.
I guess, lol, we have to get over it because stressing on it will just make us sick again!

Thank you! Now if I could actually feel that way. I feel if I even take one day off nothing is right when I come back. Things have been moved, I feel like customers were probably ignored. It's sad, but... But I love my job because I am actually at work right now, mylotting and helping my customers- lol Have a great day :D

Welcome to mylot freqapaz! I do not consider myself workaholic because I love to get out of the office immediately as soon as my shift ends! Ravisivan is right, healh is definitely wealth. I became more careful of my health since I started experiencing back pain due to pressure and lack of rest.

Hi friend, there is no need to feel guilty without any reasons, as you mentioned you have valid reasons for your leave, then why you are feeling to go to job again? change your attitude, we have the ability to change it

The thinking that others may be taking us 'bad' probably makes her feel guilty. As you rightly said such a feeling need not be there in us because we take leave only when we need it necessarily. good day.

Right again ravisivan! I feel uneasy because my co-workers might hate me because their tasks add up due to my absences! But the feeling lasts long for just a day. The day when I return to the office. Second day will be another normal day though

probably, you were raised in a stringent rules-based household environment. you feel that there is always someone watching over you, who will comment and correct you if you do something. it is Ok. many of us were raised like that. but there is a certain point when we outgrew that. i hope it comes to you soon.

This makes a lot of sense and you got me thinking about my personality background. Actually, there is not much rules around the house but I grew up with extended family around me who always has something to say about my actions. Now that I knew the reason for my thoughts, I should find a way to change them.. Thanks mensab for the enlightenment~

Yes that is a general feeling but then sometimes I think that when I go back everyone will be happy to hear the stories of my holiday.

Oh I hope all the people at the office are as light-hearted as the people in your office. Some of my office mates are grumpy when given additional tasks and they always blame the one absent for it. Not all though. My really good friends understand!

girl thinking:
1) It is good that way -- you are feeling important and responsible to your employer.
2) It is good that you may take less leave.
3) It is not good because one seems to think too much about himself as if the organisation cannot run without him.--men may come and go but organisations run for ever.
4) Do not feel guilty. There are many people for your employer. But you are the only person for you. other members of your family may depend on you. ok

Hi ravisivan, thanks for your input on this issue. I guess I could consider myself thinking so much about the company. Yeah, you are right, they could operate without me. I'm just worried always of what my other colleague will say especially when my tasks are dispersed among them. Meaning more work for them while I'm away

I dont think you should feel guilty hun. IF you are genuinely ill or have a genuine reason for not being at work then that is understnadbale. Nearly all of us will be poorly at some time or another, and having time off work if you need it is not a bad thing. It helps prevent that illness sreading if it is contagious and it gives you the much needed time to rest and recover.
The people who should be gulity are the ones who are continually taking the odd days off here and there, we all know the type hungover from weekend drinking so ring in sick, or too lazy to be dedicated to thier work so pretend theyre sick

I don't want to feel guilty but somehow even if I know I don't have anything to worry about, the feeling just hangs in there...
