If you write well, spell well and have good grammar skills, and are willing to write on any subject, then go to iwriter.com. They pay weekly, every Tuesday if you have earned more than 20.00 in the previous week. You pick the articles you wish to write, write them on the site, and submit them. If you are just starting out, you'll be getting at the minum, 1.01 for a three hundred word article. It doesn't sound like much, but if you earn premium or elite status, which isn't difficult, you can earn up to 15.00 or more for an article.
some tips:
Check the clients rating. It will be listed next to the project information. You want to look for clients who have a four or five star rating and an acceptance rate of 85% or better when you're new to this career. choose as many different projects as possible-- the key to being a professional writer is excellent research skills. Always copy and paste your article into MS Word for a spelling and grammar check, but watch out, because MS Word has a few syntax problems. If you can write quality articles, you'll get special requests, which pay more.
If you want to make a career out of writing, don't join sites that pay you per view or allow you to post articles you have posted elsewhere, unless you use a pen name-- the big boys won't touch writers who use sites like expertcolumns, trion, etc.
I currently earn about 3000.00 per month, writing 30-35 hours a week. I am also writing an in depth e-book on being a freelance writer. If you wish, mark me down as a friend, and feel free to ask me questions whenever you wish. I am generally here about 3 times a week. Good luck, and let me know how you do. Remember, you need to really focus on good grammar, syntax and spelling!

The only problem is that the 'requesters' sometimes do not attend to the articles on time at which time they are accepted by default without reviews or ratings. I had a problem recently where 3 of my articles were accepted by default with no ratings. This adversely affects our general ratings.

Hi, Chrystalia. You make very valuable, helpful posts. I have been trying to explore online freelance writing lately (have been about it for two weeks, but never got to do any writing yet), and yup, I am wet behind the ears. I have registered with iWriter two months ago, but haven't claimed any assignments yet. I practically have zero-knowledge on SEO and writing styles, plus my mind just totally goes blank when I try to write. I bet your E-book will be very valuable and indispensable for people like me who would like to do some writing too.

I did not elaborate here as the site has FAQS that explains everything. There is a video there as well.

Quite true-- there are some requesters that do that. I have 2 articles pending right now with one. If you are dealing with a new requester, they often don't understand the system. The best way to choose a requester to write for is to read the ratings written by other writers. There is one requester who paid elites 18.99 for a 500 word article-- but none of the more experienced elites would write for him because he did this-- and when he did actively accept the work, he never rated above 3 stars.
He's gone now. The admin over at iwriter, who, by the way, hires his writers of any rank that hit the top 8 in his system every week, and pays well, watches for people like this and weeds them out regularly. If you read the comments people have left when rating a requester, you learn who to avoid :-)

When you say 'Quite true' I guess you are referring to my comment above!? I did several articles for this requester and got 5 stars for all her projects but the last three were accepted by default. I created a shindig about this and only later realised that she had delayed approval. I lost 3 - I am sure - 5 star ratings. General ratings fluctuate at all times and so a requester should consciously rate writers as they lose nothing by rating. I have suggested to Admin that when this happens writers should get 5 stars by default. What say?
Did you notice that bad ratings for requesters never appear?

I actually developed a writers' block when for the first time I received approval but not rated. I have yet to get back to writing there!. I have a long way to go before not bothering about ratings anyway!. When I was not writing I went through some profiles and could not believe that anyone could produce 20 to 30 articles in a day? Is it possible? I also came across a profile that had over 400 ratings - all of them being 5 star ratings.
Admin should pay attention to rejections that are not backed by justifications when they are brought to their notice. Just calling an article 'spun' is ridiculous. They should back it by the article from where it was spun. Grrr...! They can easily use these rejections. There is no checking that they don't!! There was another rejection that said that I had not included his site when in fact he had not mentioned anything about his site.
What has been your experience?

I am at a disadvantage here because of the time zone factor. I just cannot seek clarifications as while I do that the requester would be snoring away and by the time he gets back it is too late!! I play it by ear most of the time.
The low rate approval in general which is more a rule here can be quite worrying specially when there is no check that these rejected articles could be used and as you rightly pointed out they could perhaps use the 'spin' software and get what they want in minutes.
Your performance is indeed commendable but do you do this on a regular basis? I am still a tortoise. Also I have time constraints. I am a full time housewife.
Admin points out to me to say that I will soon get used to what I call 'unjust deals'!

iwriter is a great site for writing articles. If you are good the rates go up and the payment is weekly. Can make 30$ and upwards quite easily. Do give it a try , my friend.
