Other then Good Morning America, which features some people who have birthdays, usually those who are in their 90's, we don't ever hear about people who have lived a very long time.
I was "geeking" out last night and just looking up a lot of stuff. I happened to think, hmm well let's see how long people have lived. I thought of this after looking at something else, but that's a whole 'nother discussion.
The oldest living person is 115 years old. THAT is a lot. Now I know that Mother Teresa died a few years ago and she was up there in the years, but I forget how old she was.
The thing is, they must've been doing SOMETHING right. Today our life expectancy is better then it was but still not as good as it could be. I guess I'll really attribute that to all of our "let's be lazy" inventions..
No, it's the truth. Tv's, computers, game systems... They didn't have that years ago. THEY HAD to get out and work or play or do whatever for entertainment..
They must've been doing something right.
Wouldn't you agree?

On my mom's side my grandfather lived into his late nineties, even though he had some health problems all of his life. He still was up early, milked the cows, plowed the fields, picked the fruits and veggies, etc. He always wore a hat, and he used talcum powder to protect his neck from sunburn. They drank well water. His wife, my grandma, was 100. You are right, their hardworking lifestyle helped them live long lives.

On my mom's side, on her dad's side (so my grandfather) people have lived into their late 80's maybe early 90's or so. That is a good chunk of life there. Honestly I wonder if we didn't have all of these inventions if we would live longer. I seriously think we wouldn't be eating all of this fast food, that's for sure...
I've never heard of talcum powder to protect sunburn, hmm...
Now I know you can put it in your shoes if you just don't have any socks and it helps with odor and comfort...

It physically blocks the sun, kind of like that zinc oxide that you used to see the lifeguards use. Some people will wear a bandana around their neck for the same purpose. He had really fair skin, and blue eyes and he never had any skin cancer. I think there is a lot in our modern life that destroys our health and well being. I say this, of course, after I have been to a pizza buffet and I am too full.

Cowgirl I believe having a long life is partly from our genes. The people on both sides of my family are long lived up into their 80s and 90s. I think it is also what we eat and how we live every day. We don't get out and work hard any more and we eat prepared foods with so many chemicals in it that 'm not surprised we don't have more cancers than we do. We are get ting to be so obese that we are in pain almost all the time. I have RA ans have pain in my legs and hips and feet so I can tell by the way people walk that they are in pain too. Guess which ones have the most pain. It is the people that are over weight. This can shorten their lives. It has been said that my generation and the next one will see their children dying before they do.

Hard workers have generally a life expectancy less important that other people, but it is true that many people are lacking exercise today, due to these "let's be lazy" inventions : I know people taking their car to buy a newspaper at the corner of their street, but it is impossible to tell if they will get old or not. I am not sure there is a miracle solution to live a long life. Anyways, as most of people are stuck by dementia when they get old, it would be probably more important to cure these diseases before trying to find ways to get older : there is no interest to live until 120 if you cannot enjoy your life.

Well, I was born exactly in the year 1975. so my adolescence was spent almost entirely in the 90's.
It is true he was much better in that period!
Although even then, as now my passion has always been to informatic, to 'era possessed a computer today that would "really funny", but for me it was a lot!
Today (as I take example from my younger brother), these guys are too, and I say too spoiled! There is just never satisfied. Have, and would like to have ever more!
Well that generation!

If we look at the life expectancy of average people, we would notice the difference between the past and present. The people who lived in the past had to do many physical activities and they were less exposed to pollution and chemical substance. People from present day work all day exposed to radiation. They also exposed to biochemical substance which can cause harm to them. Of course the lack of physical activities also a big cause.
