Are you an adult?

When did you realize that you were an adult? I'm almost 30 but I still feel like a kid. I know I've changed a lot and obtained experience and knowledge as the years gone by, but I cannot confidently claim myself as an adult. So how do you define adult? Maybe it means we're an adult when we can pretend that we're not children anymore? For example, pretending we're really responsible and in control when who in the world is? Hahaha! So, when did you realize or feel that you were an adult? How do you define this word?

Some research says you are an adult when you reach 30. It used to be 21. One opinion is that when you are paying your own way, that is, not living off Mom & Dad, then your an adult. Truthfully, I never thought about it. The UK's MailOnline has an interesting article that says 30 is the new 21. I read a quote by Aidan Nowlan. He says "The day the child realizes that all adults are imperfect, he becomes an adolescent; the day he forgives them, he becomes an adult; the day he forgives himself, he becomes wise". There seems to be a lot of articles online about that subject. It's quite interesting.

I don't feel like an adult. That is for sure. I feel like that because I feel like it takes waay to long for me to make decisions about life. Also I don't feel like I act like an adult when it comes to keeping my emotions in check, or when dealing with people or situations that I feel are dumb. This does get me into a lot of trouble but at least I keep a clear conscience when I do.
As far as defining an adult, I believe that an adult is a person whom makes good decisions regarding their family and money and can keep a cool head in life. They are also people that you can go to for solid advice when you need help. Adults also don't do petty crap like talk behind your back or try and get their way by playing with your emotions. I really don't think that there are may adults in this world actually, because we all act a bit childish sometimes, whether it is because we are tired and do something stupid or we are out for our own gain, no matter whom it hurts in the process.

You are an adult when you choose to spend your money on a root canal treatment instead of a drinking party with your friends
I think that I realized that I was an adult when I started working abroad. Suddenly I was alone in a foreign country and where I didn't speak the local language and I had to handle that situation on my own. I learned to be independent and take responsibity for myself. Before that time I wouldn't call myself an adult, because I was still living with my parents and I was always able to ask them for advice. When I went to another country on my own and I had to find my own answers and I think that made me realize that I was an adult.

I also just like you but I'm still 20, hhee ..
I feel the same as you because I was already in his 20 but sometimes I act like a child. I think today is the formation of personal and economic independence, a period of career development, and for many, the selection of a partner, learn to live with someone familiar, start a family, and parenting children. themselves actually do not have to claim that he was an adult, it's a very silly, because the self is not able to judge whether an adult or not. Because we can assess an adult or not is another person who felt the treatment and attitudes.

As I enjoyed the childhood so happily, I feel remain just like a child and feel more comfortable like a childish life. Though I am an adult and father of 2 children aged 15 & 13, I like to be a friend with them and even they also consider me as a friend, than a father. This relationship is much open and free for them as well as me.
Even my mom used to tell that I am not ever serious and behave like a girl or a child. Also, in my school and colleges, I got more girls as friends than boys. However, this simple nature and lacks the macturity and sometimes I feel I am not so bold enough like a matured man. Still, I like my simplicity and the way of my life how I tailored.

I guess there are some factors why people still feel like a kid in their adult age life, some of which are if they are the youngest in the family, chances are, they don't age that fast that much; others, when the parents or family members make baby talk or still baby you, that will definitely hinder your growth for maturity; some perhaps don't just like to grow up, either they are wayward or irresponsible.. But of course being childish and immature is different from being child-like.. Depends on your thoughts or definition of what being like a kid still in your 30's is.. I for my part, I also have a late growth for maturity because I'm the youngest and not given much responsibility.. But I knew that I've grown mature when I can think and make better decisions in life.. I've grown sober.. I've learn to give in and let other people win first place.. I've learned how to be patient and wait.. I've learned to be humble and be less irritable.. I've learned to give an allowance and understand others.. It's wonderful to grow.. Sometimes the process maybe painful, but it's all worth it.. Trust me.. hehe..

O.K. I'm older than you are, let me say that right now. I actually am just now feeling like an adult. I often said that i had the worlds longest childhood, LOL...I enjoyed everyminute of it but now I am actually moving toward a second phase of my life. I am keeping the child with me, not tossing it away, just adding a more mature way of life to my existence. I am now doing things such as looking forward to entering a relationship, I mean serious relationship. It's time for me to love another person, and move in with them. But it's always important when you move in such directions that you remember that you cannot give up on your choice. NEVER let others choose a life for you, that is very important. Sadly, I have always attracted people who were bored with their lives, and wanted to turn me into something else. I'm stubborn, LOL. I am glad of it. Lucky I also attract people who help me maintain my true self as well. Those are the ones I cherish. For me, there is never enough minutes in a day to do everything that I want to do. I just love to live every day, and I enjoy so much of my life :D ... Sure things can change tomorrow, but at this moment, I'm an extremely happy person :)

Haha, I felt I was an adult when my baby girl was born, because I must be mature enough to bring her up.And before that , I felt I was a child. It's a good thing that you feel you are still a kid, I think you must live under no pression. I admire you so much.

I could say that being an adult is not easy. Being an adult takes lots of responsibility. In my opinion, growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional. I grew up in a kind of complicated family. At a young age, there was no other choice for me but to act as an adult. Environment is one of the biggest factor that influence changes in your life from childhood to adulthood. If you are an adult, you must be a fully-grown person, who is a kind of independent and who is responsible for your own actions. You have the ability to make your own right decisions.

I know I am legally an adult but the kid in me will never out grow . I know I am responsible and reliable but when I am home and ready to kick back you dont see me worry about how the house is . People that know me outside my part-time work will always say you are a kid, I love playing games, watch cartoon etc . Then I would wonder if adult are stress out worry dazzy . I think as an adult life should still be fun and most people should stop act so serious and just have a good time .

I guess I can say I am officially an adult. Being an adult is deciding for yourself and be responsible for whatever consequences that decision has brought you. Being an adult is someone who considers himself as a part of the bigger picture that life is not always about himself. But there's always a part of me that is childish. So if I am going to rate myself, I am 85% adult.
