About Tithing....

I was asked many times something about tithing: One question was that "is it okay to tithe in such a way that I will just buy something I know a church need instead of putting the money in the tithes envelope?" The other thought that a believer brought to my mind was "I think it is better to give my tithes to the poor that to put it in the church." With such queries, I do not know how to answer. Maybe I can get answers from here..

This is my preliminary answer just to ark this discussion...
Tithing is to be given to the Church. Scripture says in Malachi "Bring the tithes into the storehouse, so that there may be food in my house." I'll get the exact scripture by tomorrow since I am currently pressed for time.
Do not confuse alms with tithes. Tithes is the Lords share, the first tenth, while alms are for the poor.
As stated by some other mylotters, the tithe is for the Church to use for spreading the gospel and works that they deem necessary for the ministry.
Well at least these are my interpretations will try to add more tomorrow when I have more time.
Hope I helped you somehow. If not, I hope someone else does! God bless. And happy mylotting.

Well, I believe giving tithes to the church is our responsibility. Usually, the tithes go to the foundations supported by the church, or it can be to help fund the missionaries in this certain area, etc etc. There are also times it is used to buy necessary equipment, furniture. And our church usually reports where the money goes. And it is always for the greater glory of God.

Oh yeah, my friend lloydbelleza. Thanks for the enlightenment, too. Tithes then must be given to church for the church will be a channel where the tithes be used for the greater glory of God. God bless.

I believe, based on Malachi 3:10, that the tithe is suppose to be given into God's storehouse, the church. What we give above our tithe is our gift to God in thanksgiving for His blessings and may be given in various ways to either spread the Gospel or help the needy.

tithes/offering are the bloodline of the church. In order for the church to grow,to be active and to reach out to the poor. My dear friend, it's not only the church who's benefactor of your tithes but also in your community.
My aunt's husband is a pastor and he told me the benefits of the tithes and how they spend it.
1.) raise funds for the church activities.
2.) dry goods to be given every month in a poor community.
3.) feeding to children
3.) members can borrow money if they really in need of it.
4.) medical mission
5.) and other expenses for traveling to other communities for bible sharing/study.
--that's how a church work. Do not underestimate the capabilities of your church. Try to be active in your church and you'll see. Just a piece of advice. Thank you and God bless!!

Hi IamJB7. Yes, thanks for the ideas that you have shared with us here regarding tithing. Those are the proceeds of tithes and offerings and maybe, when we give tithes and offerings, we just let the church to do their tasks of spending it in the right way.

What ever it is that your gave whole heartedly is much appreciated by God than anything else. So may it be in kind or in the envelop..it really does not matter.
Giving to the poor is different from offering.

Giving is giving with all your heart. Giving to the needy must really be different from offering. Alright. I am now enlightened. Thanks & God bless..

I believe that it's best for each person to do what they feel inspired to do.
The concept of tithing is promoted in certain religions, and therefore; those religious organizations collect money and distribute it to those who need it.
The LDS organization promotes the idea that the members should obey the law of tithing and that money is used to maintain buildings like churches and temples. Sometimes that money is used to build a new church or temple.
It is fast offerings within the LDS organization that go toward supporting those who need resources.
