Does anyone else work for this company? I've been applying every year for about four years now but keep getting wait listed because my subject areas (English and writing) are always full. They just added a college essay writing area and sent me an email saying since I was wait listed for the other two, if I could pass the test for the new area, I could move forward in the application process. I've taken it once and failed already but I get to take it again tomorrow. I'm hoping I pass. I really would like this job, for one thing, and for another I would really like A JOB.
But the thing that really appeals to me is it says tutors are free to set their own hours, the site runs 24/7 and you don't have to keep the same hours every week. So, if I wanted to take a vacation from Wednesday of one week to Monday of the following week, I'd just have to get my hours in between Sunday and Tuesday. Plus, if they are still paying the same rates as they were when I first started applying (they've changed the site a bit and now it doesn't say specific rates), I can make more working 20 hours there than I did working 36 at my old job. And I can add hours if I need extra money. So, for example, if I want to take a trip in December, then I can choose to work 25 or 30 hour weeks in October (the biggest drawback is they only pay once a month). I couldn't do that at my old job!

I've applied here also. And have been waitlisted also! It seems the main subjects they need tutors for are the specialized subjects like higher math and sciences. I'm an elementary and middle school teacher. Can't get in. I really like the idea of online tutoring (I already teach in-home) because I would be able to tutor other time zones during the times of day the kids around me are in school.

Have you looked at Wyzant Tutoring yet? Also, I just wrote about teaching Chinese students conversational English on Skype. A friend is doing that.

From your description I think this company is cool. You can adjust your time whenever you want to. I hope you'll get a job soon. Goodluck in your test tomorrow.

That's nice to know. I think I already encountered the site. I would really like to also apply for a tutorial job, but I don't have privacy because I'm renting a room. I have three room mates. I hope this time you can pass. Why not look for other online teaching jobs?
