Do you prefer to be the host?

Or be invited over to other people's homes? I am living with my mom so we usually do the hosting rather than going to other's house especially during birthdays, family gathering or reunion. My mom loves to cook for one and we love the company as well. Since there are a lot of kids in my family as well, it is a hassle to bring them all so we'd rather do the hosting at home. How about you?

Our television - This is our television
Oh, I just want to be a guest, eating the cake with coffee and bantering along with others. I sometimes entertain them, too, with laughable ideas

wow! if i have all the budget and i have a nice house to do hosting why not.. I love doing it! it feels good knowing that they are enjoying everything and most especially the spirit of being together is really a great feeling... :)

I realized just now-how could I have hosted many times when I never had enough money! Yes, I don't have a nice house. I rent. And I don't have much money to feed my visitors but I always succeeded in hosting-many times. I guess, space and money is not the problem. i just believed I could do it and I did (Mat 6:33).

It is a great feeling bringing family and friends together in your house and enjoy the food and share stories and laughter.

I'd like to do same but you know the reality of life doing such thing you need something important and required like money and place.. I know we have a desired to do that. You know this discussion is little bit related to my situation - I'd like to make a big and happy 50 years anniversary of my parents next year but I'm still worry to do that because there so many thing to prepare.

Hi visavis, yes it does entail effort and money. It really needs planning as well especially it is the 50-year anniversary of your parents. That's a big event. I'm sure the whole family will be willing to do something. Good luck!

Yes, it does cost a lot. But sometimes we do potluck. This way we can have a taste of other's recipe which is really good.

I am not very much precise on what role I like playing. Being a host is sometimes really proud and it feels good to take care of all the things. But then at the same time if you are not enthusiastic for hosting an occasion and you are made to do so, you really do not like it. If compared I have preferred attending the occasions rather hosting it. I surely want to celebrate some of my moments and I am waiting for the right time I guess. Uptill then I am comfortable attending others' celebration. Thank You

Totally understandable, some people are more into hosting and cut out for that, it really does take a lot of effort to be one. Thank you.

no one of my family members has time to host the guests. whenever we find a little time we prefer to go to watch movie or for outing rather hosting someone or visiting someone's house and disturbing them and spoiling their valuable time. for meeting with friends, having fun and enjoying we arrange a get-together every 2-3 months

I like to be the host. I think it is fun to plan a birthday party, family gathering or similar things and I enjoy the parties that take place at my house. The last big party that we had was a housewarming party and I was very happy to be the host and spend the day with my family members and my friends. My husband and I had spent a lot of time on the preparations, but it was worth it and we had a great party. It is also nice to visit other people and eat their delicious food without washing the dishes but I think that I prefer to be the host if I had to choose.

I to like to host but you know what it's a very difficult thing to do, usually my relatives watch every thing that how are they being treated and all that and if some thing goes wrong it takes me months to explain so i don't do party at home thing. We go out alot and i like to spend time with my friends rather then relatives.

I would like to do the hosting stuff very much,I like the feeling that all my relatives or friends come to visit my house, that very be pretty good, though I like to visit others house as well but that will not feel that good as the same with hosting,I like to serve others and if they satisfy I will be very happy.

I can't choose which to prefer since I like both. Being the host is great 'coz you can do all the crazy stuffs you can think since it's your party. Being invited is part of socializing too, you can meet different people at certain events, new environment,so much to discover. When I'm the host, I don't have such appetite to eat much unlike when I'm the guest :)

I totally agree with you. It's all because I love cook too together with my mom.Especially, being a host is a way to show our hospitality.Am I right? My mom is a good cook.I love mom's taste.

Honestly I prefer to be the guest. I find the being a host has a lot of stress involved, such as wanting to make sure the food is perfect and the house is spotless and that the guests will have a good time in general.

I think I'd like hosting better. That way we don't have to do crazy shopping for gifts for every member of the hosting family and don't have to get up really early to leave from home... and well, I can only cook some simple dishes which don't take that much time... but it's the company that counts, right? Some nice dishes are just a plus.

I have always loved to entertain in my own home but now that my children are grown up and have family's of their owns, it is a joy to go to their homes and be entertained by them. Being together is very important to bonding with friends and family and however that happens ... bottom line I'll do either. :)

For the most part I would rather be the host. And that usually seems to be how it is. I have a rather large house so Thanksgivings and Christmases are held here. Family reunions are usually done at the park so it's more a neutral ground. I feel out of place when someone else is being the host. So this makes it easier for me.
