We had never had this thing before in Bulgaria. And now they show in our news the people who started working on such project. They already have tons of food donated to them and they started separating it between people who need it. A part of the sweet food, such as waffles and other delicious things they gave to the kitchen for old people. The kitchen for old people is a kind of a government social program for pensioners, who are living alone or couples with very small pensions. Such people pay very small monthly amount and people working in this government program deliver them cooked dishes every day. We also have child kitchen here. Mom's pay membership and every afternoon they take cooked dishes for their kids, a cheaper way to raise their kids. It is another social government program. I don't know if the food is healthy or not, but I hope so. Now I am very happy about this food bank. We never had such thing before in Bulgaria and I am glad everyone is able to donate different food for people in need. They were discussing on the news that we don't have law freeing/lowing the taxes for companies who donate food. I hope the government will do it soon, it will stimulate our business to donate more, I am sure.

We have programs like this too which is really great. What they do is drive around to resaurants and ask if they have any leftover or overstocked food and they collect it all and cook it for the homeless. It's such a nice gesture I think

I am not sure how our social programs work with the pensioner and kid kitchen, they probably shop on regular prices and then cook it. I think it stayed as a social program since Bulgaria was a communistic country.

Good to hear about the food bank. Using the food bank concept we can donate food to the poor and needy persons. If we have lot of food which is more than our need, we can give the excess food to the food bank, so that it will help the person whoever need the food. This food bank concept is great for working persons, we can pay money for our food need and get our food as per our wish, the person who don't know cooking easily get food from this bank. This concept is new for many countries, only few places have this unique food bank concept which is good for most of the people. Hope all other parts of the world will start this kind of food bank soon which will be useful for lot of people who don't have the ability to cook by their own as well as struggling a lot for their food. In this food bank method, we can avoid wasting food and offer the excess food to the needy person, every day a lot of persons are suffering a lot with hungry, in fact some people lost their life due to it. If government started this food bank concept in every country and offer the free food for the poor and needy persons, a lot of persons will get benefits with it and we can avoid the deaths due to hunger.

Actually in he food bank I think they offer only packaged food. Ingredients for people who can't afford buying food and this packaged food will be for free. I am not very familiar, they didn't said anything about it in the news last night. The pensioners and kids kitchen are in a social program for cooked dishes on smaller price. The packaged food from the food bank will be donated to different people. The woman who is a leader of the project said there is only one condition and it is the people who need food to take as much as they eat before the expire day of the food end.

Honestly, I had first heard about the food bank. But, I am very glad to hear it. And I thought about the delight of the women who cook, and the delight of the parents, pensioners and children who need it. This is different to cook and eat together in a refugee camp.

It is something new for here too. I have heard about it only in the movies or reading foreigner forums. We never had it before. Woman cooking ... is a great thing, but when the family is little poor and the prices are high, people are getting old and sick with the time, this kitchen for pensioners is actually a great thing.

It's nice to know that your government is providing such benefits especially for the old ones

Yes, they do. But still I don't know why they ask for money for membership. Here if you want to have money, you must be doing some dirty job (when I say dirty, I mean job in a shadow, not very legal). Very few are our real businessmen, who earn because of efforts put in their own business. I really believe that pensioners must have little more privileges. Something like higher pensions, or if the government can't provide this, they may give them food for free or something like that. Our pensioners has spent all their life in working, as people do everywhere in the world.

Glad to hear that this about Bulgaria! There's lots of opportunities for people to help here. And there are incentives for people to donate money too. We get tax receipts which could help us out when we do file our personal income taxes. I hope that your country is on your way to that. And help out a lot of people in the process.

I have shared many times, that our government doesn't think for anyone. There are some social programs, but they are not so successful. As the food for pensioners, the pensions are really miserable here, this child kitchen I wrote about is also a social program, so this project, as I understood is made by people wanting to help poor ones. It gives me hopes for better days.

Thank you very much. My hope is that the society will grow up easier that way. People here must learn to give also, not only to take (when I say here I mean my country).

Foodbanks do not work. Not here in the UK anyway - they simple fuel apathy of people who can not be bothered to look after themselves!
