Would the world go insane without Facebook?

So many people have become addicted to Facebook that it is becoming an epidemic. People are now more social with people they don't know from around the world than they are with people they physically see. If Facebook was taken away and we were no longer to talk to those people around the world do you think the world would go insane?

Becoming an epidemic? Isn't that alittle strong? Do you remember MySpace? Until Facebook came along it was the place to be. Facebook took over where it left off. I have been a member of Mylot for several years now and I have gotten used to having it up and my major site for the day. Then I have Facebook up and that is where I go for my breaks. See what my friends are up to, play afew games, etc. I have met some people from around the world that I wouldn't have met had it not been for Facebook. I don't think the world would go insane if they no longer had Facebook to go to but it would be sad. The way things are going in the world this could be a possible outcome so I would enjoy it while we can.

Yeah, becoming an epidemic may have been a bit strong, but if you knew my friends and how obsessed they are with Facebook you'd know why I put it that way. Far as Myspace goes, I remember it, but never really used it enough. I didn't have internet back then.

Well, it really depends on what kind of people, some people just use Facebook as means of communications, like me, but I can say that shy people that are used to chatting with peers, but lacks confidence to talk to them in person are those that are most likely gonna be victims of this, although they won't go insane, but they will become more anti-social.

Honestly....yes it's crazy how much we use it (we being generally) I mean my moms friend took away her phone and she was practically going through withdrawal when I asked why she said she hadn't used FB in FIVE days.
However it's not actually an epidemic... We just get waaaayyyy too obsessed with it

I'm not so sure, but I will say this. It does make it a lot easier to keep in contact with friends and family, whereas, if I didn't have Facebook, then it would be more difficult to talk to everyone.

My friend not really addicted to Facebook but few of them posting regularly. Facebook not really annoying me, Blackberry yes. Blackberry really popular here almost all my friend had it and me the economic person think I don't need one because already had mobile internet connection.
The annoying part you can not even talk without them checking their blackberry. Its really drive my mood talk away. Gez its hard to get full attention when you talk, I think I need new friend to really listen.

I think this is not a question.. You remember that before facebook mania, there were many social networking like friendster, myspacee and others. In case facebook will taken as you said there many will coming out so don't worry facebook is like other social network like others

I think there would be some people going mad, but those people have slight mental illnesses or addictions or are just too modern. There are so many others sites offering all the stuff Facebook does, but separately. Yes, it makes things easier, but I can find a social site in a minute, send e-mails to my friends with articles I find interesting or chat with them via messengers, follow all the sites I follow regularly and not wait for facebook autoposts...

I don't think they would go insane but would go to another popular social network, twitter. If all social networking sites went down then i think people would go to other ways to commuicate like before facebook and other social networks. texting, emailing and talking on the phone. Those ways seem so distant now.

I grew up with little gadgets. There were also no social networking sites decades ago. Yet I consider sites like Facebook a welcome relief since people I've lost touch with or cannot be reached through traditional means are often there. My Facebook friends also keep me posted about work, extracurricular activities, new product trends, and what's happening to common friends.

For me if the facebook will gone and fade that was a miracle. And I already imagining those people act so crazy losing their facebook accounts. Its bad people nowadays depending on and living on their facebook accounts, not on their real life's. It was sad that even a seven years old kid knows how to use facebook and use it in so many hours a day. Not instead playing on the outside and have a real fun. People must learn their own limitations and they must knew what life is.

It's indeed true that many people have become addicted to Facebook. In fact, I think they are addicted more to the convenience (more specifically, the convenience of communicating easily with people worldwide) of Facebook than Facebook itself.
However, I am not one of those people addicted to Facebook. I think the thing that I am most addicted to on that site is probably one of the games anyway! At the same time, though, I feel like some people forget that there was no Facebook as recently as 2004 (and even this current version has really only been around since 2007 or so).
To really answer your question, it depends on whether other such social media sites (like MySpace) were also shut down. If they weren't, I think people would just move on to another one if it's not too much different. If they all were shut down, I think people would be using their cell phones to communicate with others even more than they already do.
