There is more happiness in giving than receiving. If you help someone, you help yourself in return. In what way? A famous proverbs says: "The generous soul will itself be made fat, and the one freely watering others will himself also be freely watered". Generosity is a good trait which will give you a lot of blessings. It is indeed a great feeling when you help those in need. It gives you inner satisfaction.

It is a great thing when you're able to give to someone. It is better for you to give than to receive but sometimes our wants and desires make us envious so that we will want more. If we can push this desire down and give generously, we will feel much better within ourselves. Most of our changes in life that are positive will come from within.

Your point echo is indeed true, some people even if they have a lot of money, or anything they can give can't still give because of their endless desire and greediness (sorry to use harsh words). We can't really give if we will not learn to think less of our selves....specially thinking a lot of wants than needs.

You are right with your words even if they are unfriendly to some. It is the truth. It isn't something that is practiced much in our time but none the less it will be truth anyway.

for sure ,we must be so generous for sure at all point of time to be splurging and being giving, caring well for others rather than just minding for ourself alone.its a good habit,if cultivated can help receive us more gifts and bring more good faith in long run.so we must follow it along with soul satisfaction also

When I give away anything I feel a sense of satisfaction within , but when I recieve from others , all the time I keep thinking about it all the time -if it is expensive I feel now I will have to give back something , if not better then atleast similiar ,if it is cheap then I feel they are too stingy -human nature ofcourse ,one can,t help the mind wavering .Giving to the needy is more satisfying.

That is very truly said. We also see how justified this saying is from our everyday life. You correctly mentioned about how we feel when we offer help compared to when we receive the same. I am not saying that we shouldn't ask for help and remain introvert in that sense. But yes we should have a tendency of putting our hands forward more for giving rather than receiving. The lines you mentioned are very correctly said and we should develop a habit of abiding ourselves to it.

It also one way of being grateful to all the blessings you've received in life.As they've always saying that the more you give especially for those who are in need, the more you are also given blessings and new opportunities to improve the standards of living. It is a good action. But we also need to put certain limitation for it might give also to them an undesirable outcome.Like for example, always giving to the person sometimes lead to be dependent.I hope it won't happen but the reality is telling us that it does happening now in the present.

I am currently taking a Psychology class and this topic was a big discussion just the other day. There are many people who give because they want something back in return, but then there are others who do it just because they want someone else to feel good. I think that it is truly a blessing to give to someone else when you aren't expecting anything in return. It just really makes the heart feel good to see someone else happy.

I have always been one of those people that feels that it is far better to give than to receive. When it comes to the holidays, I have to admit that I am a person that absolutely loves to give gifts and I really don't expect to receive very much in return. The gift that I get from giving to other people is the fact that they have such a look of joy in their eyes when they see the present that I have taken the time to choose for them.

Hello there! This is a very old proverb and a lot of people find it hard to practice this because of the material things. But giving doesn't only mean giving material things, it's more than that.
Anyway, i do agree with you and there's really so much joy in giving than just receiving.
Btw, i hope i know you because your name is actually my mom's maiden name and i think we are related somehow.

litvillegas, you are indeed right! to give is better than to receive. Giving is a gift. A precious gift. There are people who are gifted with giving. Since giving is a gift, we must be thankful if we have a big heart to give; I think most people have the ability to give but not all people are given a gift to give. How will you know that you have that kind of gift? when your heart is too big to do ordinary things in extraordinary way. When giving to you is not a burden but a privilege, when every time you give; you can feel joy within you. The greatest gift a man can give is love and time. If you can give a portion of your heart then it is easy for you to give a portion of your wealth. Just in my own heart and opinion ;)
