I love to wash the dishes…

Actually it's my most favorite household chore. And no, I don't use a dishwasher, I never had one and even at my husband's proposal, I refused to buy one. I prefer to do it by hand. Fortunately, I have found a dishwashing liquid that is gentle on the hands. But still, I never fail to moisturize my hands with lotions and hand creams. Of course I draw the line when my kid siblings will just leave their plates as if they just ate at a restaurant. I don't mind volunteering to do the dishes, but if I did the cooking, well, division of labor is in order.

Wow you should come over to our house if you love dishes But it is fair to say that if you cook, one should do dishes and not leave them all to you. On the other hand, even though this is a lazy suggestion, if they want a dishwasher and you are not allowing it and they hate doing dishes they probably would feel negative about having to do them. So I kind of see both sides

Raine, my mom always says that too! That I can't do the dishes after cooking (or whenever my hands are tired). She says I'll get those ugly veins.

I think it sounds like a good tale for getting out of more chores. But if someone goes to a lot of effort to cook a nice meal they should be able to relax afterwards

I wouldn't mind, seriously! =) Or elders told us that if you cooked, you shouldn't let your hands get wet, or it will damage your nerves. It's just an old belief but my husband (who grew up in the West) says that it's just a way to get out of more chores, lol!

I’m quite a tidy person, so normally when after eating a meal I do wash my dishes right away, it is also a good way of maintaining a clean space. So, that when people would visit your house, they will not see any mess going around most especially in the kitchen.

That's what I've been trying to tell my younger siblings. If they immediately wash whatever dish it is that they used then there will be no eye sore piling up in the kitchen.

True! and will make the place tidy, and you won't get worried on the pile of dishes in the kitchen.

Hello Raine. In my home, my wife does the cooking while I would like to do the dish-washing. This way my wife won't be so tried and has some time for a rest after a meal. Our labor division is very clear. We both share household chores, although my wife does much more than I do. Have a good day.

Hi there! Now that's a good way to share the household chores. It's the other way around for me and my husband, because he can cook better than I do. I just make sure that whenever he does the cooking, I will be in charge of the clean up.

I'm happy that someone does! My dishwasher recently broke and it's back to doing it by hand. I honestly forgot how time consuming it can be. I like to cook so pots and pans aren't a problem but the dinner plates and silverware....I miss my dishwasher

Oh yeah, I love this chore, I still do even during the winter, surprisingly. I am weird, I know. But when it comes to washing China and other delicate pieces, I sort of prefer using the dishwasher because I am clumsy. I don't want to break precious dishes that I wouldn't be able to replace or pay back. I hope you get your dish washer up and running again. It would be awful if you will be stuck for hours doing just that while the rest of your family is out and having fun!.

I don't mine washing dished either, it gets the job done quicker for me, I live with my nice who had dish washer, but I never use it,I filled the sick up with dish waste, and detergent and put the dishes in the sink, and wash the dishes, but when I get my own apartment, I will be so happy and I will wash my own dishes, and I will keep my apartment very clean, I just love a clean house.

We're the same! Since our dish washer will hold some considerable amount of pots and pans and some dishes, it would be like 2 days before it gets filled up. I don't really like using the dish washer that's still got some space on it. But I don't think I like the idea of having 2-day old dirty dishes.

I thought I was the only one :D I also love washing the dishes. I don't know why and sometimes I wonder why I like washing the dishes when so many others hate the chore. It's also one of the few things I can do to help around the house, since I'm just a teenager. I used to be hesitant about it but recently I always take the initiative to do it.

We really are the same. When I was a teenager myself, I always escape other household chores by automatically volunteering to do the dishes. Since nobody else in my siblings like doing it, I hear no complaints nor objections. Of course it goes to say that I have to be extra careful not to break any dishes.

Sometimes I like to do them, sometimes there is something very soothing and comforting in doing the dishes. Then there are other days when I just want to get them in to the dishwasher and get it over with. My dishwasher was broken for about a year though and didn't mind doing them by hand all that much. It is fixed now, but it doesn't wash dishes as well as I do.

Hi lady33, sorry for my late response. I never had a dishwasher, actually we grew up without using one and we're fine with it. It's just that we feel like we use re-wash them all over again so might as well wash them by hand to begin with. But I guess when there's company, I think I will welcome that machine so I wouldn't be stuck for hours doing that lol!

I love to cook, but I hate to do dishes. A long time ago my husband bought be a dishwasher because wahing dishes standing at the sink was awful on my back (I have back surgery). I only wash the pots and pans, but I take away most of the meals so that my dishwasher will last.

My mom is like that. She makes sure that the dishwasher will last a long time, to the point of not even using it anymore. I am glad that you don't have to strain your back anymore at the sink. Thanks for responding!

I have a dishwasher and I will say that it is great. There are 8 people that live here and thats with out all the cups, glasses etc. I feel that there are lots of other things that I like to do and life is short, so less time on chores the better. All the cooking things that we use all go in the dishwasher, also sometimes I put ornaments in there as well, call me lazy, but I prefer to use time to spend with my family rather than doing dishes.

Well if you put it that way, I have to agree with you. I mean, I sure don't want to be doing the dishes all day while everyone's gathered together hanging out on the living room.

Thanks for this discussion. We too like many don't use dish washers, my wife and daughter in laws prefer cleaning the dishes by hand using dish washing cakes and liquids; our maid actually does this daily.

My mom in law also prefers this especially for pots and pans that's got congealed grease. Many times the dishwasher can't get rid of it and after that she still has to re-wash it by hand. So she said, might as well do it by hand to begin with.

Ugh, not cleaning the house. I can clean my room, having half- fun. But when it comes to tidying up the common areas: living room, dining room, kitchen, office, gazebo...well let's say if I did clean it up I swear nobody's supposed to trash it for at least a week. And I will do anything to avoid the common bathroom, but if it's our own bathroom, I don't mind.

I understand how you feel. When I lived with my grandparents most of my father's siblings including their kids they just leave their plates in the table and pretend nothing happened. They dont even try to put their plates in the sink and wash it i think they thought I am their house-worker who can clean everything from them. Now that I am married I only do the cooking and my husband do the dish washing and made sure to wash it properly.

My husband is a better cook than I am. And whenever he cooks, he makes sure that whatever he uses are cleaned soon after. So that makes the utensils we used for eating left for washing.

Wow! good job! I am sure that you are every mother's dream daughter hahaha. Here in our household, no one wants to do the dishes. We feel compelled to do it since no one will do it. And we also want to help our mother. But if we were given the choice, we would rather do something else. I hate washing the dishes. My favorite chore is cooking.

Well, because of me having this weird trait in the family, every Christmas all I get are hand creams and lotions. It's actually fine but het I prefer to buy my own brand. And I sure don't need 12 tubes of it all at the same time, lol!

Sometimes doing dishes is way too much for me. Endless! my husband and kids they are non-stop of using glasses, spoons, forks and plates one after another. I just give a sighed every time but sometimes I screamed. Like before I will go to bed, I clean the kitchen sink, stove and the whole kitchen however, when I get up in the morning everything is a mess...

I can remember back in the old days before dish washers and having to wash the dishes by hand. Personally many times, I never minded this. What I always hated was drying them and putting them away. But there are a lot of times washing a dish by hand will get it a lot cleaner than a dishwasher, and look better as well. So I think it is all a matter of choice for sure.

Raine38 There are times I actually like to wash dishes too..but not all the time and I would hate to be without a dishwasher. I guess it's like a lot of other things..if it's by choice, I enjoy it but if it is a MUST DO all the time...not so much enjoyment

Hi, It is very good that you like dish washing and don't depend on machines for it. We have servant in our house for washing clothes and dishes. My wife is suffering from muscular disease so she is unable to do all these works. but before when she was normal she do all the housework on her own and she didn't like to be dependent on anyone else. She used to cook and all the household work happily. I was always busy in my work and I didn't have the time to help her. But now she is dependent on the servant for all these works.
