Requesting a friend

OK I'm new, so be gentle... but I'm not sure of the actual protocol on requesting someone by my friend. I read the FAQs which pretty much just tell me how to request a friend, but not really why I would. I don't mean to sound snotty. I don't mean why would I want any friends, I mean...what reason do you approach them - because of a comment they make to your posts? Do people get annoyed or pestered by that?
Also I did not look at the friends section of my page and found that someone had requested to be my friend and I was ignoring it. I didn't mean to I didn't realize it was there. Now I now to look all the time.
Hey and I love friends, bring it on!!

Making friends on myLot is the same as making friends on any other journey. You start talking with them and then realise that you have something in common. It could be an interest or you laugh at the same things or you both have the same lifestyle or the same problems to share with each other.
Many of us have become close friends with other myLotters over the years and even though we might never meet in person, it feels like we really know them forever.
Welcome aboard!

mysdianait - thanks for your comment and you pretty much made it sound like I thought it was, or should be??
Forever_The_Lamb - I am SO sorry about that too. You do deserve credit for sending me here...ummmm....yeah, "credit" that's it. Someday I'll be grown up enough to use "emoticons" too.

MysD - Yes, it definitely feels like we have known each other forever, even though there is an ocean between us.
Lambie - I saw that you two knew each other and you were her first "friend", so I thought that you actually had a referral. I am sorry that you don't, but it is nice to see a new avatar around here.

Christine you have only a short lifetime here so far and maybe you are still in time to credit Lamb for bringing you here. I am sure he will explain in a PM and might even make it worth your while to do so too

*gently wanders into discussion*
There are many reasons why you might want to send a friend request to someone, but I would suggest not sending one to everyone that you meet and/or interact with, because then you just get a list of people that you may or may not have things in common with - of course, that is just my opinion. Personally, I will send a friend request if I like the attitude of a person or I think that they have interesting things to say or I think that they are original and have a good sense of humor, etc. On the other hand, I normally accept friend requests as long as the person has posted something, because I can always unfriend them later (or turn off notifications) if they start churning out a ton of "non-discussions".

I thought you enjoyed being part of a "non-discussion"

Often it makes no difference what we were not discussing because we end up not discussing something else anyway

It depends upon what we are not discussing.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but I request friends when I run into someone who shares my interests, so I can see when they post new discussions. I am housebound and work online, so I don't get to meet very many people or socialize very often. MyLot is where I come to hang out, so to speak. If someone comments on my posts, and we get into a conversation, I like to see what other categories they post in, because I like to learn new things.
As I see it, MyLot is a social site, that happens to pay people-- and I like to be social on occasion :-)

Hi,
Welcome to Mylot!I shoot a friend request sometimes when I like the discussions someone has started and I am interested in being friends with that person so that I can continue to receive notifications of new discussions being started by that person so that I may participate in them too. Also, I have found some friends here to be very helpful. Whenever I have queries I send them messages and they always help me by answering and clearing my doubts. I am so happy to be a part of this community. I am sure you will make many new friends here and enjoy every moment of your stay at Mylot.

What I did was when someone responded to my discussion I would send them a friend request. I figured if they liked my discussion then we must have something in common. That is the way I always did it and it worked out good for me. Or if I really liked a discussion then I would also ask them. =)
I am sure if you stick around you will make lots of friends!

Hi friend, by making a lot of friends we can enjoy this site with more fun, our friends will participate in our topics and we can share our good and bad with them through topics or messages, we can share our earning programs with our friends and come to know about new programs from them, there is nothing wrong in making a lot of friends in this site to have fun

You can choose to have friends in Mylot by sending a friend request to him or her, it is not compulsory that you MUST do it and you can base on whatever reason you like to request a friendship here, it may be because you like the profile, his/her response, the discussion topic, the interests listed in their profile page, and dozen more reasons you can think of. Some people may get annoy by your friend request, while other may gladly accept your asking. It is nothing personal even if you face rejection, having friends in Mylot is much better than be alone all by yourself, for the sake of discussion and posting, friends sometimes do help in playing along. That is all i can think of for now, will let you know more later if somethings new come out. OK! you are new, you would not be blamed for not knowing about it, it take time to learn about Mylot, just don't get too hard on yourself, take it easy and let's just take a step at a time slowly.
