I really don't use physical punishment. I really don't use physical punishment unless absolutely needed because nothing else is working. But I try not to use it at all and really have only used it twice. What are some things that you would feel the punishment for should be physical punishment?

I use physical punishment only in 2 situations:
1. The child put himself/herself in a life danger-ring situation. We warned him/her about it, explained why it is not allowed and he/she did it again.
2. The same only he/she put someone else in this situation (mostly their young brother/sister).
Also the child must be able to understand that what s/he did it wrong. And s/he is under 8 (since I don't think that after 8 physical punishment is effective as just taking away what thy want most)/ Of course 8 is an arbitrary limit I set since that what ft my kids, and each parent should notice the proper age for his children.

I agree with the others. Physical punishment should be used as a last resort. I think the younger the child is, the more effective that type of teaching is. A swat on the behind never hurt anyone.
My kids grew out of spankings by the time they were three or four and never needed them again.

Hello wilsonburrell,
I tell my kids that I will spank them if they hurt or put themselves in danger or any one else. The way I discipline is to take away their toys or privileges. I am not a believer in spanking so I really try to avoid it when I can. I will use spanking if they do violate my rules with my terms.
