Is BatGirl "commissioner Gordon's Daughter" or "Wayne-butler Alfred's Niece"?

You remember, she's "Alfred's Niece" in the movie BATMAN & ROBIN. But I recently saw an episode of BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES in which Gordon's daughter became BatGirl ... and that was a two-part episode! For conformity's sake, who would you rather remember as BatGirl? (And are there any other "BatGirl"s I missed?)

It Depends on which version of the Batman story you're following,I suppose..I never watched the Animated series,or been a "BatComic" book Fan,so my most recent Batgirl Memory would be of Alicia Silverstone suiting up in B+R..sorta OT,but I read that the recent screen appearance of "Robin" drew from 3 of his origin stories..so does that mean he's now a 4th? Your Confusion is acceptable..

You'd really need to be asking a BatFanboy about this...Reading there were various origin stories was news to Me! (Though I had picked up some inkling by watching Big Bang Theory!)

Barbara Gordon is Batgirl, there were a few before her but she is the one that has made history. The animated series has the lore down so tight and then we have Batman and Robin lol

Why didn't they have Alicia be Barbara Gordon instead? was there something in the movie's story to where she had to be related to Alfred?

Not that Wikipedia's the soul of accuracy, but it does say that there were several incarnations of BatGirl. The one I remember is from the 60's series where she was Gordon's daughter.
