What Foods Carry the Best Mood-Lifters?

An ad for a mood-lifting drug mentioned a couple of its ingredients--saying that those and other of the drug's mood-lifters aren't likely to be found in food. That made me curious as to where we could find 'good mood food' (other than Arby's Restaurants ). Well???

Foods that are rich in vitamin B12 and folic acid. B12 is found in meats, dairy, fish and poultry. Folic acid is found in beans and green vegetables. Whole grains are a good source of selenium. Research has found that oxidative stress in the brain can cause mild to moderate depression in the elderly. Antioxidants help to get rid of the free radicals causing the oxidative stress. And fat free chocolate is good, too. And I always feel good when I'm eating at Arby's!

It's because they use 'high quality' meat (what do they say, "USDA Choice"?). That, and something they put in the Arby's Sauce And are "vitamin B12, folic acid & selenium" the antioxidants you're talkin` about?

Wouldn't it be better to get your selenium through whole grains? Or is there something bad about eating too much of those? And about the Arby's Sauce: you can probably "Search the Web" (top of every myLot-page) for the 'official' ingredients of The Sauce, but you never know ... fast-food workers with spare-time on their hands ... ... Have you seen HAROLD & KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE?

Hmm...I wondered what was in that sauce! Folic acid (folate) is an essential vitamin. B12 and selenium are antioxidants but each does something different than the other as well. It's the selenium that helps to get rid of the free radicals. Selenium supplements are very important, especially for the elderly.

I am thinking that anything chocolate is a mood lifter for me..lol. I don't have much of it but when I do, I think it raises the level of my mood. I think that most any food that we really really like, that we don't eat all the time, has the potential of raising the mood. Ingredients...well..not sure about that.

Are these 'foods with actual mood-boosters in them' or just 'foods you like'?

Fresh fruit is my favorite mood lifter. I really feel good after eating any kind of fresh fruit. Give it a try. My favorites are pineapple, pears, peaches and strawberries.

Not really a food, but you know how sunny days are used to symbolize goodness or happiness? The vitamin you get from the sun (vitamin D) is definitely a mood booster, so eating foods with that vitamin, or taking vitamin D supplements as well.

Bananas! That could be why monkeys are always so wacky and fun. They eat alot of bananas. This is a fruit which also has alot of other good benefits such as the ones mentioned on this page here~ http://www.lifescript.com/food/articles/0/14_banana_health_benefits_you_might_not_know_about.aspx
