I always love hearing peoples coming out stories
For me my friends were brilliant, it was more a gradual outting that a big announcement but everyone of them was supportive
Family didn't take it too well, and its really destroyed what little family dynamic we had but hey i've learnt to take it as its their problem not mine :)

When I was in high school I helped my friend 'come out' on stage during a pep rally. It was awesome! She was the head cheer leader, dating the QB of our Varsity team, he knew she wasn't interested in him and that she was lesbian, but they were such close friends they dated to keep her secret and her family happy.
Well a new girl came to our school and she was openly out, and she was the most beautiful thing my friend had ever seen (I am quoting her). So during a pep rally I came crashing through the middle waving a rainbow flag with both my friends name and the new girls name painted on it. Right as I was running across the stage, the QB announced into the mic that this years 'Homecoming Queens were those two.' of course the new girl thought it was all a joke and tried to storm out when my friend grabbed the mic and asked her to the dance. She looked stunned but agreed and they dated for like three years that I know of, I don't know what happened after graduation because we all kinda fell outta touch.
It was really amazing and my friends parents eventually got over it, it took all of us friends literally threatening to help her emancipate herself, and other things but they realized that they were being dung heads, and came around.
