My health issues

My diabetes is very out of control, now our way of measuring is different from the USA. Here in Canada, my blood sugar levels are supposed to be under 7 which is normal, mine is 11.5.
The nurse is having trouble getting it under control. I am on pretty strong meds already. I can't take the daily monitoring, with my arthritis I just can't do it right. I don't have enough strength in my hand to work the pen.
If it continues over time I will have kidney damage and heart damage and eventually die from diabetes.
The X-ray came back on my back. Not kidney troubles but osteoarthritis, which means that the cartilage in my lumbar 12 (spinal chord) is very thin, that is what causes the pain because bone is scratching on bone with no cushioned protection.
There is no cure. It is the arthritis of old age and will only get worse. If I cannot walk anymore they will do surgery to place a pin or whatever they do to ease the pain and help me walk.
The pain medication they gave me hasn't kicked it yet, and the nurse said she wants to wait a bit longer before deciding to increase the strength.
One good thing, there is no blood in my stools.
Right now the thing that bothers me the most is the heat, please pray that this hot and humid summer is over. It makes me very sick.

I have osteoarthritis in many joints. Three years ago, out of the blue, when I went to go upstairs, both my knees were stricken with horrible pain. I had only had little twinges every so often in my knees. Nothing like this. I started taking glucosamine sulfate, fish oil and copper supplements. I have never had one pain anywhere since then. My shoulder used to hurt sometimes but now, like I said, for the past 3-4yrs I haven't had one pain anywhere. I don't put undue strain on my joints, but I can rake the yard for an hour instead of 10 minutes. Six months ago I was told my sugar was a little high. I refused medication and started taking gymnema sylvestre. My sugar is normal and has been since then. My niece's husband is very overweight and his sugar is quite high. He started taking it and monitoring his sugar. It's normal and his doctor is NOT pleased because he no longer takes medication. I have read in several places that gymnema has been used in herbal medicine for 2000yrs to treat diabetes. I didn't know they knew about diabetes that long ago, though. I thought you might find some of this helpful or at least a little interesting. Some of this might (or might not) be worth looking into. Wish I could REALLY help you out. I hope you get some relief from your problems soon.

Winterose, you're VERY welcome. I was worried about posting it because some people get offended or have a bad opinion of natural medicine or they think that you're trying to push something on them. And that is never my intention. I just hate to see a person with problems, especially painful ones. I spent the last 3yrs reading everything I could about natural medicines. I tried to get the most accurate and up-to-date info that I could. I'm so glad you liked it. If you'd like any information I can give please feel free to ask. I don't know a real lot but I know some good stuff. I hope your night goes well and I wish you better tomorrow.

My sister is a heart patient and we're hoping she won't suffer any complications.
My mother in law is a diabetic patient and I know what you are suffering.
I know how hard it is when someone suffers from illness/ailment or any health problems.
Watching my loved ones in pain is unbearable :(
How I wish we can send the rains in your place.
We have so much waters here and millions of my countrymen are suffering from flood.
Many lost their houses and few lost lives :(
take care ma'm

I am sorry you have so many health problems. I am glad that it is not kidney causing your back pain. Some people find that eating things with ginger, turmeric or even cherries helps with the pain of arthritis. I have a niece who cannot manage her blood sugar and I guess there is some new med out that she gets injected only once or twice a week. I imagine the heat may affect your sugars as well, just the stress of it. I hope you find some relief.

The no cushion between bones is very familiar. Because of the car wreck I had my spine is in that situation. The arthritis of course has kicked in. But with me, they gave me cortisone shots to try to put some cushion in there. It was only a temporary fix and eventually you can't have them anymore, but are they willing to try that on you? It took several for me to get any result, but I had a few good months.

not yet, they are starting with elavil and they are just considering if they need to increase the dose because this is the first medication that I have started for pain. Normally the over the counter stuff is the only thing that they use.

HI Winter,
I know next to nothing about blood sugar levels and what causes them to rise other than diet. My mom had ostoartitis and it was horrible. On my mom, nothing seemed to work but I know others have been successfully treated with the right meds. I hope they find the right ones for you. As for the heat..I will definitely pray. I don't get bothered much by the heat but I did walk with my grandson to the store yesterday and it was so so hot...asthma kicked in. It really is about getting older. I've had asthma for years and always walked and hiked. I feellike that is just my lame excuse as to why I hesitate to walk.

No this is not a lame excuse, this kind of weather is bad for anyone with breathing issues.
Well as I said they did start me on a medication for pain and it is not working yet so I don't know when it will.

You are in my prayers. Since my guy is also diabetic, I have familiarized myself with the Canadian and American scales. He's to stay between 5-7 and that's 90-125 American. 11.5? YIKES!!!!

yep that is it, mine was up at 14, today it is 8.6 so it is going down and I am happy about that. God is starting to answer my prayers, but to be honest I only recently started to pray about it.

I'm sorry things are not the best. My Mother's diabetes was out of control at the point she spent up to 6 weeks between the hospital and mental hospital trying to get her meds right. She initally went in with a diabetic coma.
Seems nothing is fair when you get older when it comes to your health. I'm hoping to prevent type 2 myself. GL I hope things can remain manageable and you don't have to do surgery.

Don't worry God will take care of you. I actually have an uncle who has the same situation as you do. His condition is getting worse and worse. It started when he got some foot wounds. At first he just ignored it unaware of having a diabetes until such time he got infected. He couldn't walk anymore. The doctor said that it needs to be cut off before it's too late. But he refused to the doctor's advice saying he doesn't want to die with incomplete body parts. There's nothing we could do but to send up a prayer. It's his decision not ours but it's sucking to look at him struggling with so much pain.
