I went to a gastroenterlogolist on Wednesday. It was a follow up of certain problems that were shown in the last PET CT I had almost 3 months ago. Although the colonoscopy showed the wear and tear of age and chemothraphy, what he certsainly did nmot like were my extra kilos. So now I`n on a diet AND, specially with the obigation of walking 10 blocks everyday. I haven`t reached thatyet, bt i`m trying. I have not had any energy for months during chemo and I only started to walk a bit while I was on my vacations, less than a month ago. The doctor made perfectly clear that there was no point in dieting if I didn`t start some exercise, according to my possibilities in this moment. I have to come back to see him in 3 months, with 4 kilos less (around 8 pounds). Are you aware that exercising is at least as important as dieting in order to slim down? Share.

Hi my friend! I know exercise is more important than diets. Why? Back in the day us kids would eat what they called junk food but didn't have too many obese kids. Why? We ran around outside after school And we has recess In school! thanks for changing the kilos into pounds! 8 pounds isn't too much and not too hard to do. Suggestion. Find a mall and walk it. It will be inside, climate control, and you can window shop , which means you may walk more! I know when I'm window shopping I forget I'm walking ! In any case good luck! Write if you ever need to talk.

The problem, Sarah, is that he wants me to lose those pounds in 3 months. I´m supposed to have my perfect weight after a year, he said. I have the supermarket at about 5 blocks away. If I go and buy something walking every day, I would walk what the doctor says. But I´m lazy

There is a park that accounts for maybe 2 blocks. The best part of the trip is that there´s a man who lives on a hut and I guess he´s a sort of guardian. He has planted a vegetable plot by his house and I love to see his veggies grow (much better than mine, but I don´t mind).

I´ll have to start little by little, as walking goes. I have led such a sedentary life this last year that walking too much exhaust me. I´ll make it, though.

I love to walk but I do not dare venture out of my apartment too much for fear of running into my coworkers or employers. I live and work in the same complex and that often ends up in me working off the clock. Sometimes this makes me feel like a prisoner; I am longing to move to another location.

Why don`t you dare be seen by people you know? There`s nothing wrong in walkin, I think.

It really doesn't make sense to just diet if you don't include at least some exercise because that is what burns the calories. If you diet only, your body might think you are starving it and cause you to keep the weight on. If you exercise only then you are more likely to lose weight. If you eat less and exercise more it will lead to the best results since you are burning calories in addition to eating less. And sometimes it is what you eat rather than how much. Are the calories healthy or not? It really shouldn't be difficult to lost that amount of weight in three months time. I know you can do it! Have a great weekend!!!

Even if it means you have to go out for several short walks I know you can do it. You might start out with a two block walk and do it up to five times a day and then when that gets easy go for three to four blocks three times a day until you are able to do the full 10 blocks all at one time. Who knows, you may wind up feeling so great you do many miles/kilometers per day. I hope you are able to reach whatever goal you set for yourself! Good luck!!!

I have done the 10 blocks yesterday and today. Yerterday I went to the super, about 5 blocks away and today I went to see my daughter walking 4 blocks to the bus and then 6 blocksfrom the bus to her house. I feel very proud of myself. I hope that tomorrow I will have somewhere to walk to. My brother installed a walker that belongs to my mom in my room, but it`s harder than to really walk.

I hope I can do it. You know that vanity is one of my many flaws and I have been gaining weight since I quit smoking. Last year it was worse because I did not have much energy with chemo so I led quite a sedentary life. I hope to have more energy now. I´ll take it as a task to be done every day in present so it doesn´t overwhelm me.

Hi Marg, with the combination of a well-balanced diet and enough of exercising, they can really help in slimming down our body. A few years ago, my mother was quite fat. Since she had been diagnosed as having Diabetes, she need to shed a few unwanted kilos. As she is not a very active person, the only way for her to shed down those unwanted kilos is through dieting and walking. Everyday, she make sure she had walked enough before she sit and rest. Nowadays, my mother don't walked much since she had shed away those unwanted kilos. But, she still walked daily, to maintained her health. If she don't walked enough, her feet will start to feel cramps and pain.

I have some health issues that make walking difficult some days. But I try to do the best I can. I hope I can shed even a pound a month. That would be a gain for me. I can cheat with the doctor though: I went there just after my vacations. I had 3 extra kilos besides my extra weight. Those I shed very fast. It`s the others that want to stay put. I have a month and a half to she a bit more that a kilo and the doctor will not notice

My doctor will be more disapointed than me, I guess. Although I haven´t yet given away some awesome corduroy jeans that are not my size anymore. We´ll see. I´m not obese, but just overweighed. And I put on my weight after I turned 60, so it seems that I don´t really have a tendency to put on weight.

I actually tend to believe that exercise is more important than diet when you are trying to lose weight. The reason that I tend to think that this is the case is because of the fact that there are far too many people that live completely sedentary lives and adding some movement into your life will definitely help with your metabolism which in turn helps you to lose weight. When I'm trying to lose weight, I will moderate the food that I take into my body, but more than that I try to exercise as much as I can because I think there are greater benefits in that.

I hope so because in these two days I have had more success with exercise than with diet. Yesterday I invited my brother and sister in law for diner and today I had lunch at my younger daughter`s house. Still, I tried to eat areasonable amount of food. I suppose that things will get better when the ghost of chemo is forgotten. But I still have to have some treatment every 3 months. It`s not chemo, but my energy will not be the same until the followup ends.

Hi maam! Yes, i believe exercising is important for us to stay fit and healthy. I also do walking for my exercise. However, i don't do it every day. It makes me feel relaxed whenever I do hiking. I usually do it with my friends. I wish for your good health. :)
