How do you celebrate a kid's birthday?

My sweet little daughter will have her 4th birthday this coming Tuesday, August 14. We are telling her that we are not going to celebrate it now because we don't have money to spend unlike before, and the good thing is at her very young age she didn't complain, as if she already understand. She'll just tell me, "Mom, in case you have, I want a spaghetti and a yellow cake (her fave color). We are secretly planning to have a simple celebration at the beach so that they can enjoy swimming and playing in the sand.
Guys, what else can you suggest or what else have you done to celebrate a very simple, less expensive but memorable birthday of someone you love dearly? :)

Since you are going to the beach why not have the kids collect sea shells and you can spell out happy birthday in the sand! Sand castles are always fun to make. Bring empty cups and small cans a 4 year old can hold.
Girls also love Tea Parties. Set up tables with cups and saucers and little snack plates. Invite the stuff animals and dolls too!
I know small children also like stickers. They are not very expensive and will keep girls entertained for hours.
Make yellow cupcakes and let kids decorate the cakes. Messy but fun!

You don't have to spend all that much money for a young child to be able to have a special day that she will remember. The things that she has asked for seem to be relatively simple, so you can probably afford those. With regards to the beach, you could invite some of her friends and their families and ask them to bring a picnic with them so that you can play. If everyone brings some games to play as well then you would have an even better time. You could take things like frisbees, footballs and cricket sets so that all of the children are able to have some good fun.

Yes it is very simple and she's a very sweet little girl too, and I don't want to spoil her little wish. We would like it to be simple as much as possible and because the beach is just a 20 mins. away from our house, it is a good idea to bond together. Thanks :)

Maybe you can make some toys for her by yourself, using paper, cloth, or any materials you can find at home. This is less expensive, and the child will always love it, as it's filled with mommy's love. You can always search online for any ideas or tutorials. You can also think of some games for the children to play at the beach.

Well, I do think that the simple meal of spaghetti and a yellow cake is something that you can do for her because the meal choice is inexpensive and also baking a cake from scratch is something that doesn't cost much at all.
In addition to that, making sure that you spend plenty of quality time with her and take a lot of pictures at the beach gathering will be really good as well.
For a child that young, it would be perfectly memorable to have a cake and ice cream and a day out with the family.

Happy birth day in advance to your child
Even I got 2 children, a son and daughter. Not so small, 15 & 13 years. My daughter is so keen to celebrate a month back and start count down the numbers then. She want Chicken fried rice and Chicken Manchurian, that's all.
As now they are grown up, we wont invite anyone. Buy a cake and prepare some sweet dish and some additional items. Yes, she is particular to get some gift too. Any way, my son and wife will get a surprise gift also. And my son also the same way, while my daughter will make arrangements to get a nice gift for him also.
As you said, for the last 3-4 years I was facing tough times and didn't celebrate as they liked. But when they were the age of 5-6 and those time I used to call their friends and other children at home and used to give party on their b'days.

how much you spent is not that important but how you celebrate it with your family that really counts! I don't want to spoil her no matter how sweet she is :) because I want her to live her life to be thankful for what she have. Simple but memorable. :) Thanks

Everyone celebrates birthdays different. For my birthday as a kid it was no chores on birthday, birthday spanking, cake and ice cream, presents, and getting to stay up later than normal.
For my friend's kids it's presents, cake and ice cream, and going out to eat wherever they want to.

I don't have any kids yet but we are able to celebrate my niece's birthday with less expensive party. Her mom decided to go on a zoo and right after that my niece played at one of the biggest playground for children. she was so happy then we prepare some food for picnicin that playground, we just serve spaghetti, cake, pizza and fried chicken. That's it..My niece was so happy at that time. Less expensive but wonderful experience.

Can you have a bond fire at the beach. if you can then have marshmallows to roast and after it gets dark enough that the starts are out give her her very own star. We used to take one of my granddaughters out so she could see the stars and repeat the nursery rhyme

Your child is very sweet. I don't want to spoil my child. So usually I will not make a big celebration to his birthday. Most of the time I will buy him a small cake with a birthday gift to celebrate it. He is already happy to it. I don't want to make a party to it.

Yes, Thank you. :) She is very sweet and will always tell me "Mommy, I love you" although I don't want to spoil her by giving a big celebration or spending a lot of money because she will get use to it when growing up and that's not good. We only want to make it simple with our family. :)

Probably take her and few of her close friends to a beach for a fun day playing water and sand under the sun is simple and not expensive for you. You only have to spend several hours of yours day; prepare some sandwiches and soft drinks along with your trip in this simple and yet meaningful day of her. You can thank me later for coming out with this wonderful suggestion here, it is not such a big deal after all.

Although I not yet have a child, but I have few nephews and nieces who actually enjoy their birthday celebration by giving them present gift a simple toys or clothes will make them happy, but in your part you want to celebrate her birthday in the beach that would be great too. I suggest you to buy fishes and broil/grill it beside the beach I think it would be a memorable birthday your daughter. And want to say happy birthday to her! Good Luck and Good Day! :))

We used to have grand celebrations for my only daughter when blessings were still abundant. Lately, when life is tough we just give her simple celebrations as going to the beach with immediate family members only, a picnic in a park, or going to the mall to eat and buy her a new toy or any simple thing she wants to have. I am also blessed to have a good daughter like yours who never complains and understands our situation at her young age.
